Becker knives and Cold Steel Tomahawks...(?)

I am thinking about getting a couple of new edged tools.
The first is a Becker companion, and the second is a Cold Tomahawk.
Are the Becker knives able to handle hard use?
Is a Tomahawk an actual tool or more of a weapon. The particular one that I am thinking of is the smaller version of their Rifleman's hawk (Trail Hawk?). Would one of their Spetznatz shovels be a better camp tool?

Becker knives are top notch.

You can't really go wrong, especially for the price. They also come with very cool sheaths! I just bought a BK7 yesterday, love it. I used to have a BK1 and that was also a very sturdy knife.

What you have to remember is that it uses 0170-6C high carbon steel, which is not stainless. However, it is a very hard steel, and designed to take abuse. You just have to keep it clean...

Also, it is very sharp, my friend already has cut himself a few times with the BK7...

I would get a Becker over Busse or Swamp Rat for really hard use because I won't feel as bad using a $50 knife than a $300-$450 knife for most apps...especially when the $50 knife IMHO is very nice and very sturdy...

I just returned a BK2 companion...same day it arrived

The Kydex sheath was already cracking around the rivets

I don't expect a lot from a $69.00 knife, but it should get to me in one piece!

My aim was for a general...around camp kind of knife.

The blade and handle were definitely bombproof...but not spectacular

I have a BKT Combat/Utility 7. It came very sharp, is very well made for the price, and the handle fits my hand well. I don't think you can beat it for the price.

I just bought the BK&T Crewman in Desert Tan. Its blade is about 1" longer that the Campanion (not Companion, BTW; don't worry I didn't notice it either until someone pointed it out).

Very well made knife, it makes me want to buy the other Desert Tan knives.

I used mine during a camping trip over the July 4th weekend. I brought the bow saw but forgot to bring anything that would split wood. Yep, you guessed it: I used the BK&T Crewman to split wood up to about 5-6" in diameter! Since it rained on us Friday PM, I had to use later that day to wittle some dry tinder. It was still sharp enough to shave my arm hairs. Its one tough knife.

I don't think you can go wrong with a BK&T. Try 1stopknifeshop.com or Quartermasters Brigade (actiongear.com) for the best prices.
