i found a remington 722 in 257 roberts with a 3x9 leupold scope today, it has been hunted and has sling studs added with a ex bore in very good over all condition. it came with dies, 100 new cases and four boxes of reloads(i,ll pull the bullets for compoents). i need a rem 722 in .243 to complete the set. eastbank.

Since I'm older than dirt, I have a thing for vintage hunting rifles, particularly in obscure calibers.

Good for you. Hope it shoots well. Gotta get a range report.

Nice find, eastbank!

A buddy of mine just showed me some pictures of his Win Model 70 in the .25 caliber Roberts... sweet rifle.

I know you know what you're doing (collecting a set), but I read up on the round. I dig those wildcat cartridges, I suppose, like redneck does. I think it's because of the nostalgia.

Nice rifle. I bought one just like it back in the 1950's and used it for many years. If you plan of shooting it I would check the trigger closely because the one I had got to the point it would fire when the safety was switched off. A replacement trigger and safety locks the trigger but does not lock the bolt handle down. Also, if you handload always pick tough sharply pointed bullets because that rascal really knows how to damage a bullet point. I always loaded Winchester silvertips that had an aluminum cover over the point. Maybe the new plastic tip bullets would work.

Nice find! I'd have snagged it!

Now, IMR 4350@ 45.0grn, 100 grn Sierra ProHunter, you seat bullet barely touching throat (still easy chambering) , sight in 1.5" high @100yds.... Go hunting!!!

I've killed many deer with my 'Bob! Added another one earlier this season, same load as above! (My 'bob is a custom M98 w/3" chamber.) It prefers 2.950" seating. Your Remington likely has standard "short throat".
Also, H380 and H414 are stellar performers, as are 100gr GameKings, and Hornady Interloks.

For an outstanding short-medium range load; 42.0 grn IMR4350, or 44.0 IMR4831, under Hornady 117grn RN. Substitute 117grn BTSPT Interlok, good longer range muley, elk load.

i,ll get to it in the spring, all the 722,s i have or had shot very good and a few shot fantistic. my 722 in .222 rem and .308 shoot bug holes with the loads i worked up for them. the last one in .243 i would like to get seems to be hiding from me. eastbank.

Sweet rifle, condition looks fantastic. I've had a few in Deuce and Roberts. My 243 is a 700 BDL that I put in a 722 stock for the look.
Best of luck finding the 243. I don't recall ever seeing one.

The first 22 CF I owned was a Remington 722 in 222 Remington Magnum. It was a terrific groundhog rifle. I haven't shot it in a few years.
