I've been thinking about buying a bolt action rifle lately.
An entry level centerfire with iron sights. I don't hunt and just want it for the range so I can practice and learn more about the art of the rifle. It's about time I purchased a centerfire.
I'm not expecting anything magical for the price I'm thinking about spending.
The rifle in question is the Remington 700ADL synthetic. Does anyone have any opinions/experience with this model? So far, I'm considering the .308 version.
Also been looking at the ones from Savage.

Thanks :D

That's how I bought my first gun, except I had to go and buy the Steyr Prohunter. Silly. A tackshooter, but I didn't like it. Besides, it didn't come with iron sights, which I would have preffered, so I had to get a telescope. Traded it for an old Czech Mauser and an 870 shotgun. Bad economics, but I'm happier with those two old-fashioned girls than with that racy Austrian dame.

Yeah, get whatever appeals to you. I like the old classic Mauser-type actions, but one certainly can't go wrong with a Remington, or with the .308 cartridge. Sticking with the more common models, such as Remington, Savage, Mauser, etc., means you'll have plenty of options for aftermarket gadgets, such as better sights. Speaking of which, you might look into an aperture sight for the gun.

Hope this is worth something. In any case I hope I've warped you with my own biased opinion. Have fun. Buy a gun.

+1 for a .308 700 LTR. I love mine.
Great rifle. Any 700 Remington is awesome.
Savage is also top notch as well.
Have fun. Buy a gun. (nice catch phrase BTW)

bolt action

If you havent seen one....or thought about one......take a moment to check out the CZ....550/527......line of bolt actions. Classic Mauser action...hammer forged barrels...and without doubt the sweetest trigger set up I have experinced. Single-set trigger will spoil you.

Savage is a whole lot of gun for the money. Very, very accurate and with an excellent trigger. I would wager that out of the box, the Savage will out-shoot the Remington.

I have the Rem.700ADL in .308 and love it .All around great rifle at a great price, plus for some reason I always like the idea of being able to use iron sights if needed.

The rifle is good, the sights suck. Get the 700 and retrofit it with a proper aperature sight from Williams, MMC, etc.
