Benelli SL 180 problems.

A friend of mine has left in my care a Benelli SL 180 12ga shotgun. it looks to have a piece missing off the top of button on the side that closes the bolt(just an internally threaded roughly finished stud), connected to the part that holds rounds in the magazine tube (not sure what the part is actually called) but it wont cycle rounds out of the magazine while firing, turning it into a single shot. It shoots and ejects fine, but we just cant get it to cycle. anyone have some remedies on how to fix this?
