Beretta 70

well i have come to a conclusion through all this looking at pocket pistols and such ,and i think i like the beretta 70 also it seems to run for a fair price ,what i need to know is what everyone else thinks about this gun,ANY EXPERIENCES?,if anyone has pics of there model 70's that would be nice

i have a beretta model 70s

in .22lr, i don't think i would use it for carry/defense. it is single action like a 1911 the mag release is in a weird location. but it is one of my favorite little plinkers. just my opinion.

My favorite series of guns (maybe outside of a really nice 1911) is the Beretta 70 series. They were the perfect guns, only downside was the perceived lack of firepower (22, 32, or 380's). My 70 32ACP is one of the most accurate guns I own.

Bought my .380 brand new in the middle 70's. I think I paid about $140.00 for it. It has been a great little gun, and fun to shoot. I can't remember when the last time was I saw one for sale.

The 70S is a great little gun in either caliber, and I'd carry and use a .22LR for defense any day. The amount of lead it puts in the air is intense, and the .22LR round is more than adequate in entering the body but not having enough energy to escape. I've spoken with a number of doctors who have tried to follow the pathways of such bullets from the time they enter a body to the time they come to rest literally anywhere.

I wouldn't trust a .22LR for a 2-shot affair, but I'd trust it if I had 8-9.

One small problem with the 70S in general is that it seems to have a problem with small surface rust. I used leather with oil and later, BreakFree, to eradicate it, but it just didn't do the job. I later was told this was a fairly common, and persistent, problem caused by the way the finishing was done. Anyway, I finally had the gun hard chromed. Since then, it's like the gun is stainless steel, which is way cool.

I have a 70S in .380 and it's a great gun, and a real beauty. They come up on GunBroker frequently, and here's one in .380 up right now http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=110032945 and two on GunsAmerica http://www.gunsamerica.com/Search.aspx?T=beretta 70s I stumbled on mine in a local gun shop for $375 unfired in box.

I wouldn't depend on .22LR for self-defense unless it was all that I had. It's fine having 8 or 9 rounds, but then again that assumes all hit and in a vital area. That may be easy at the range, but the dynamics change dramtically in a gunfight. It may end up killing someone, but the idea is to prevent being shot yourself with return fire and the chances of incapacitating someone to that degree with a .22LR is greatly diminished. I think that recommending a
.22LR for self-defense is just downright plain bad advice.

I have a Beretta Jaguar Model 70s .22lr that I inherited from my Grandfather. It is in decent shape and I love to shoot it. Trigger pull is nice and light and it is fairly accurate (although I am not). I only have one magazine for it though so it gets tedious to reload all the time. If it held more than 8 rounds and was 9mm or greater, it would be almost perfect.
