Beretta Laramie

For a while now I have been intrigued by the new production cowboy action guns and the quality of manufacture to me, they seem to be. Notably Uberti and others as their names escape me at present.

Well this past week I ventured in a local pawn shop and on the shelf was a beautiful reproduction of an old top break Shofield pistol called a Beretta Laramie. I simply was taken by its looks and overall quality of workmanship that was highly evident. This slightly used Laramie was in 38 Special and its cylinder locked up dead solid. If it wasn't for the $850 price tag it would have followed me home.

Anybody else had any dealings with a Beretta Laramie?

I've had one since they were first offered in '04 or '05.

They're made by Uberti, yes, but I've never seen a Uberti with the fit and finish of the Laramies - or I'd own some.

Mine is in 45LC though, but a speedloader works on it, which is half the retro wierd factor.

Shooting it well takes practice, the grip and sights are different than modern guns enough that it's not something you're likely to be good at out of the box.

Also check CDNN etc., they've had deals on the 38s before well below $800, usually if I recall in the $600 range.

If I did it again, I'd probably go 38 and the shorter barrel.

The "Larmie" and the "Schofield" are both copies of the S&W No 3 (3 being the frame size) They differ in the latching and grip design. The "Schofield" has the latch that pivots on the frame, and the "Larmie's" latch pivots on the top strap. I find the grips on the "Larmie" more comfortable.
