Based on value, which would you choose-- the Beretta Xtrema2 or Urika?

I've seen the commercial hype for the Xtrema2 and am nearly hooked but some online posters are saying it's not worth it. So is the Xtrema2 worth $200-$300 more than the Urika? I'm likely to use this as my all around shotgun (hunting, skeet, etc. but not home defense).

I own both. So, I'm just the guy you want to talk to......The Urika is one of the best all around shotguns made and I will never sell mine. If you don't need a 3.5" chamber the Urika is a fantastic, soft shooting sporting clays, skeet, trap or hunting gun.

I bought the Xtrema2 last Saturday and had it on the clays range shooting trap, skeet and 5 stand, Sunday and Monday. It did a fantastic job as well. I bought the Xtrema2 as a waterfowling shotgun and my expectations of it as an all around are not nearly as high as they are with the Urika.

Both fantastic, reliable guns. I think the Urika edges the Xtrema2 out for value and over all usability status.

I don't think the Xtrema2 is hype. It is a great, soft shooting gun with a lot of features designed to appeal to the waterfowl hunter. BTW: That video is the shooter, not the gun. It cycles faster than snot down your nose on a cold morning. But, I wasn't making those kind of shots this weekend.

3.5" shells are still pretty stiff recoiling as well. 2.75's are very soft though. The posters that say its not worth it are those who still believe you can't use anything but an 870 pump in cold weather. Or, they wouldn't spend more than what an 870 would cost them no matter how it shot. They're stuck in an 870 time warp and are hopelessly lost forever. (Not that there is anything wrong with Remington or the 870.)

Here is my Urika.

870 Time Warp? Nah.....

For the record, I've shot a couple of each and like them except for the triggers. Easy fix.

I'd go with the Urika, just because I'm not the biggest fan of 3.5 loads for those of average skills.

I own a Urika. I don't need 3-1/2" shells but I do need a gun that will feed and function with the very lightest of target loads. My Urika does without complaint. It's the best semi-auto shotgun on the market today IMHO for target shooting and is no slouch in the duck blinds either.

If the Extrema 2 came in 10 gauge however I'd be sorely tempted. I like the 10 much more than the 3-1/2" 12 gauge.

And if the Urika came in a 28 gauge I'd be first in line to buy one although I might have to fight off some of the 28 gauge fans around here to be at the head of the line. ;)

Ammo Capacities

I've been looking at the Urika2 but the specs say it can only hold 3+1 shells. Does this shotgun have the same capacity as the Xtrema2? And if so, how do you get 10-12 rounds in the gun like the guy on the demo video did?

Thanks folks!

Hunting what?

The Urika is my choice by a very large margin. But I hunt non-floating birds in dry environments.:D

The thread is about 3 years old, but

And if so, how do you get 10-12 rounds in the gun like the guy on the demo video did?

Do a google search for: beretta magazine tube extension kit

Florida gun works carries one, and I'm sure others do as well.

Having owned both, I still own the Urika. I never shoot 3.5" shells, and someone else wanted the Xtrema2 more than I wanted to keep it in the safe. They both have the same magazine capacity from the factory.

Thanks for the info! I know it's an old thread and I apologize for dragging it back up but it's the thread that I was directed to when I posed my shotgun question. Thanks again and sorry about the dusty cobwebs!... :)

The Urika in 20 gauge would be my choice even if waterfowl was on the dockett. 3.5" is overrated, overhyped, over.....a lot of stuff. Do yourself a favor and stay away from it. You can always use Hevi-Shot to decrease the difference a tad.

Maybe this thread should be put in the vault.
