Well I have around 400 of these and I want to make use of them. Since they are thick plated and double struck AND I have a couple pounds of 800X sitting around I married the two with 13 grains powder for what I thought would be a moderate load. I do not have a chrono.
This was a complete disaster, 13 grains 800x felt similar to 19 grains 2400 under 240 Nosler JHP I also shot today. Not one hit on a 12 inch target at 25 yards through a model 29 nor a Marlin leveraction rifle. Stapled target to large piece of cardboard to find thumb size boat shaped holes in various spots not related to my point of aim lol. In all fairness I did try to put a little crimp on them. I guess, please correct if I am wrong... the combination of too much speed and a light crimp (noticable indentation, but not compromised) was the problem(s). Going to pull the remains of my experiment.
I have these Berrys and the following available powder to try again. Going to slow it down and just crimp to remove the case mouth bell.
Which powder? I get it, the obvious choice is Unique. What else?
BE-86
AA #5
Unique, but I hate to use this as it is my 20 GA powder. (unless you insist)
Power Pistol
Maxam CSB-1
HP-38
Autocomp
Titegroup
the already mentioned 800X and 2400
Anyone use .44 special data as a guide BUT using Magnum cases if you have no special cases?
