I went to the shooting range with my dad the other day to shoot his brand new bersa 380. It shoots accurately and oddly enough jammed on the first loading. It think my dad rode the slide forward. After that, it worked great. My question is should the slide release forward when firmly (just firm, not abusive) inserting the loaded magazine? It does. It doesn't when gently seating the mag.

That's a good question that I can't seem to find an answer for either. I have a Browning BDA .380 which is the same basic design as yours, and the Beretta 84f. Mine does the same thing, I've heard of others having that experience---but the manuals don't say a thing about whether that's a flaw or not. I just make sure I don't load it inside and keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. I've never had it go off when the slide released, but I'll continue to hedge my bets toward safety.

I too have certain guns that will self load upon firmly inserting a new mag. Unusual but not a rare event IMHO.

This is normal for Bersa and has been discussed at www.bersatalk.com. Apparently this "feature" is supposed to give a tactical advantage when inserting a fresh mag. Because you suddenly have a live round in the chamber and it's in single action mode I can certainly see potential danger when it occurs, if one is not aware and expecting it.

My glock 19 will do that from time to time if you really slam the mag in there hard.

My Glock 17's will close on inserting a new magazine. Not unusual. Had my 1911 do it occasionally too.

I have a question about the Bersa 380..I have my second one and the first was a good one...When I go to eject a live rd it doesn't want to eject them all..It looks like the extractor and ejector ar perfect but it drops some without ejecting...I fired it today and it was perfet except for one jam out of 14..Any opinions. By the way I am a 1911, Glock and you name it shooter 15 yrs in IPSC and am not new to guns...bootman
