I chose "other" because it can vary some by gun. If 00 buck patterns like crap out of your gun but #4 buck tears a wicked hole then #4 is right for you. In general I prefer 00 buck, but I've seen a couple shotguns that strung all kinds of weird patterns with it, even at across-the-room range. Of course it depends on the load too. Not all shotgun shells are created equal...

When in doubt, 00 buck is my choice, but I'd recommend spending an hour with the patterning board and a few boxes of shells... YMMV.
