I want a new bolt action .22 for under 400.

I am already considering a CZ 452. Before I make the purchase, I want to research other models. Any suggestions?

I think you've already made the choice that I would make....oh, I already did ;)

I love my CZ452.....$219 out the door 3 years ago

I don't know if you can get it for $400, but the CZ453 would be near the top of my list. It's the CZ452 + single set trigger.

Absolutely go with the CZ 452. if you are looking for open sights, go with the Special/Trainer for around $220. If you want to scope it, you could move up to the American or Varmit for right around that $400 mark. They have a nicer wood on them. The American is set up for a scope, it has no sights. The Varmit has the heavier barrel.

I went with the Special/Trainer, added a scope and was still under your target of $400

I'd go CZ without any question whatsoever. The decision is made. Now, choose a model.

The varmint has a heavy barrel. The American is American styled. Each requires a scope. The others have European style stock and iron sights, but still have the scope rail.

The Scout is by far, the ultimate short, lightweight tack-driver ever. 4lbs, moa accuracy, and did I say short? Put a 6x on this, and you've got the ultimate woods/squirrel rifle ever. I NEED to get one!

These rifles are made old-school style. With a solid and smooth receiver. They use real steel. They do not have a cheesy feel to them. They have nice wood. It is the way God intended it to be before junky modern-cost savings methods.

CZ452. The Lux if you want irons, the American if you want to scope it. The American has teh 3/8 dovetail I believe while some others (including the Lux) have 11mm which can be hard to find rings for at your local shop.

Oh, and get a Brooks trigger kit.

I'll Break the CZ-trend

CZ is without question an excellent .22LR! Its receiver is frequently used to make custom .22s. That said, the Marlin bolt-action .22LRs also are excellent quality. The microgrove barrels offer up some incredible accuracy. I have had Kimbers, Marlins, CZs and Rugers in .22LR, and they all shot equally accurate, and they were equally reliable. In light of that fact, my decision would come down to "point of rationality", meaning to get the most for the least. That brings us to either the CZ or the Marlin. Now, we have two similarly priced rifles and similar quality. That leaves patriotism as the sole determiner for me. I would choose the American-made rifle.

cz, tc, toz, or Izmash, with the cz and tc being the most 'sporter' looking while the other two have more of a 'benchrest' look.
