Best .22 on the market for under 200 bucks!

Marlin 60 well under $200 I have two. I like them both. Accurate, reliable, proven design (11,000, 000 sold). Any .22 rifle that costs under $200 is going to have trigger issues. Live with it or do some minor massaging to make it better.

For me .22 pistols is really tough trying to recommend one that will satisfy, for $200. I have been spoiled by a 50's vintage Hi Standard my dad left me.

Thanks for the info i never would have considered the sw 22a until now. I like the idea of having a pistol over a rifle since i mostly shoot pistol. and its good to hear that they can take alot of rounds and not have problems

So how much is the ammo that you said feeds well for that gun? that is my only worry about a semiauto, the reason i want a 22 is so i dont have to spend much on ammo.

I would suggest you relax, save a little more money, and keep your eyes open for a Ruger Mark II, preferably the govt model with the heavy 5.5" barrel.

There is no question in a economy priced 22 semi-auto rifle.... Marlin M60 first choice and Ruger 10/22 as the second.

You guys are a bad influence...looking for a good .22. My self, I have a 1930's vintage Marlin 80 bolt 22. No trigger problems with it. It's problem the bolt does not actuate easily anymore. The hard casing has warn off the ramp.

Anyway, this discussion got my wife wanting to go to the (very small) local gun shop and look for a target 22. (she's been ill for the last 9 years and not able to shoot, now she wants to start shooting again) Well, we walked in and she said, I really would like a High Standard Victor, if at all possible.

The owner says, well, ok, I do have this....and pulled out an absolutely perfect (like it never was used) High Standard Citation Trophy, with three barrels (one was the 22 short only, olympic barrel), three clips, in a lockable foam lined metal case with cutouts for everything, including the extra barrels..

She put her hands on that Trophy, and made it hers. The shop owner said "that didn't take long did it?"

What an absolutely gorgeous Trophy! What are the odd's???? (sorry, it wasn't under $200)

For under $200 new you're looking at the Heritage Rough Rider as far as guns I'd trust out of the box (ie no Bryco/Jennings, etc.). The cheaper guns are out there but you spin the wheel as far as reliability goes. Beretta Neos or S&W 21a for not much over $200. Browning or ruger are a bit more; you may be able to find one used for around $200, but people tend to hang onto them once they have one.

As far as rifles go, your choices under $200 are much wider. Marlin and Savage for well under $200. Ruger 10/22 for just under $200, but once you start accessorizing you can go past that mark quickly.

Cimarron has the "Plinkerton" also. It is basically a Colt Single Action Army look-a-like but slightly smaller than the real thing. The suggested retail price of it and the Heritage are both over $200 now. I haven't seen the Heritage under $200 for awhile now but saw the Plinkerton for $189 just this week, $199 for the .22LR-.22 WMR version. Personally I like the Plinkerton a little better than the Heritage. Chiappa builds the Plinkerton for Cimmaron.

Ruger 22/45 MKIII - I found this to be the most accurate, feels "just right" when firing and it is really cool with the Tactical Solutions barrel and flash suppressor. Nothing else can touch it except maybe the Beretta Neos U22...

Peace,

Ditto on the S&W 22A,
reliable, light, cheap.
The bersa Thunder is a bit more but has good reviews and is more concealable.

You rarely find a used 1022 in a pawn shop. They are in a closet, under a truck seat or standing in a corner in the bedroom.
I will admit the Marlin is a good shooter, but like i was told they are throw away guns. Not valuable enough to try and fix up.
The 1022 on the other hand can be repaired, replaced, and be passed down for generations.

Marlin 980s.

Got mine with wood furniture, and it looks SLICK.

Scope for mine cost more than the rifle, but with CCI Mini-mags OR Stingers the Oreos setup around the 200 yard gong pop with startling regularity.

Wouldn't trade this rifle for any repeater I've ever seen or shot.

Phoenix HP 22a. $150 nice little reliable 22.

Fun, accurate and reliable gun for well under $200. Also, looks like a badass gun too! Add the lifetime warranty and you have a lifetime of fun. I've never needed the factory for mechanical help in thousands of rounds but they are there if needed.

Man, you asked a hard question........I've been buying 22's for about a year or so for the same reason, I saw the price of ammo and thought, how am I going to keep practicing when I can't afford to shoot??
So here is what I've learned in the past 18 to 20 months I've been doing this....first...you can find a nice and I mean a vary nice 22 hand gun for under OR AROUND $200 but you must be patient and wait until you find that nice Ruger single six or Ruger Mark I or II or III any of these guns will last you a life time and even if after you buy it and it needs alittle work you can buy every part on them off the Internet.
You can buy ton's of other hand guns NIB for that price,,,,But you get what you pay for so be careful.

The only reason you can find deals on Rugers is because they've sold so many of them through the years that some one can sell you a gun they bought 10 or 15 years ago, and not be losing more than $25... and you'll still get a gun as good as a new one.... thats my 2 cents...good luck...W

Perhaps do a little more research on the older guns that come up from time to time. For example I've got an old Iver Johnson copy of the Colt Woodsman. Others such as Hi Standard also made guns very similar. If you're not looking for the match grade stuff such guns can often be found for well under $200.

If you like revolvers a Hi Standard Double Nine when used strictly in single action mode is a decent enough shooter as well. And a top break Harrington and Richardson Sportsman that I have is not a bad shooting gun either. None of these off brand revolvers can match S&W for a smooth double action trigger pull but when shot in single action mode they can deliver the goods in fine style.

not a hard question at all these guys know what they are talking about. The HP also has a target barrel that can be changed out in less than a minute. If it were not for all the safeties this would be on my very short list of 22 pistols to recommend to new pistol shooters. Accurate, inexpensive, reliable and a great warranty.
