Yes hg so true. It can be -10 during the day. We only wear an insulated vest. At this elevation the sun is intense. I wish I had bought one of the Russian Mdl. 95 rifles. They sold for $75 dollars years ago. We are hoping we will be able to hunt wolves again. The last President banned that. It is a fun winter past time.:)

Yes, that one has started to "Rub" east bank. Our Governmet Hunters take over 20,000 coyotes a year. The planes go up very often here. Hunters and trappers take thousands. Texas has an annual kill that is mind bending. The more coyotes that are killed the more pups that are born.
The Indian legend that I believe. "A Coyote will howl over the last man's grave".

I live on 700 acres and have a seemingly endless supply of coyotes to kill. I've been here 19 years and up until five years ago was out in the country. Now I'm surrounded on three sides by housing developments and believe there are more coyotes than ever. I think they are bigger too. I've done some reading and watched a documentary on Netfix about coyotes. Seems with all the trash in urban areas to eat they grow bigger. I've hung up my .243 for hunting coyotes on my property and have gone to a .22 Mag because of all the houses around. I keep my shots under 125 yards and still get plenty of coyotes and the occasional bobcat and gray fox.

here's a first year production (1972) Marlin 1895 with non micro groove barrel with an extremely rare Marlin (Light Optical Japan manufacture) 1973 scope which I recently replaced the dismal marlin factory mount and rings with a Deadnutz one piece set up. The 1.5-5x scope has a German #1 picket posts set up which is super deadly and it is a VERY bright and clear scope of obviously rugged construction. The rifle is very accurate and I like the full 22"barrel, having had a 16" ported Stainless Guide gun in the 90s trust me this one hunts better. It has a decent trigger for a lever action and I shot a few deer and pigs with it over the 30 years I've had it .

I'm a huge levergun fan, and an even larger fan of the .45-70 in all of its forms. When it comes to leverguns, I follow the 3M's:

Make Mine a Marlin.

eastbank, You are a phenomenal gun collector and shooter. I just love reading your responses:).

I would guess stainless Marlin. Stainless steel oxidizes to much lesser degree than blackened carbon type.

I've always favored the Guide Guns built by Marlin in the 1998 - 2002 year range because of available factory porting. They are still out there and I would go that direction before buying a newer Marlin. I know they have fixed much of their quality issues, just don't like the new checkering at all.

I have a Winchester/Miroku from 2014 and the fit & finish is absolutely top notch.
