Hey guys,

I just ordered my first .45ACP (a Sig P220ST) and have realized that with the cost of .45 ammo, it would be in my best interest to start reloading. In the mean time I will be using cheap plinking ammo and saving the brass so the question is... Which cheap ammo has the best brass for reloading?

In this area, WWB and Remmy UMC is generally the easiest and cheapest to buy. I've used both with no issue in my 9mm's. Is the brass that comes with these rounds good for reloading? I can also get Blazer Brass at Walley World but there seems to be some question about this brass in regards to reloading due to the way it is formed? At some point I will probably buy a case or more from some vendor, is there another brand I should seriously consider (Like A.E.) or avoid based on the brass used?

Thanks

I haven't bought any of the Blazer Brass yet, but I've used a LOT of both the Winchester White Box and Remington Yellow Box. The brass used in both is fine for reloading. My impression is the Winchester in general may reload a couple times more than the Remington, but not enough of a difference to infuence which I buy. For range ammo, I normally get what is in stock and /or on sale.

Good Luck...

Joe

I have loaded the winchester white box stuff with good results. I have also use S&B brass quite a bit without problems.

I've had good luck with anything but Remington and A-MERC brass. Remington has thinner case mouths and require differant crimp settings which is a big pain. A-MERC is just plain out of spec. WWB, S&B, Federal's American Eagle, and PMC have all been particularly good to me for inexpensive ammo and good brass.

As an aside, S&B is producing much of the WWB ammo right now since most of Olin's production is slated for military contracts. Errornet rumor but the ammo is almost identical except for headstamp so use whichever you can find cheaper ;)

I built up my supply of 45ACP brass by shooting WWB. Bought a half case at a gun show for about $95 and shot that up to get the brass. I have been reloading that brass for about a dozen cycles in the 550B and have no complaints.
