Looking to get another 1911, this time I'm thinking a full sized, all steel and stainless. The catch is I'd prefer to keep the price tag down this time with a reliable, no frills model. I'm thinking maybe a Colt '91 series (http://www.coltsmfg.com/cmci/1991.asp), but I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something. May also get a .400 Corbon barrel for this one too (please see other post if you have any info to share on the .400 Corbon round).

Any input appreciated.

Thanks,
rt

S&W fullsize 1911's are nice. I own the billboard model and an Sc commander. Good pistol for little $.

Springfield Armory makes a mil-spec 1911 that can `be found in some places for $400. There was a place around here that had them for that price for the longest time. have not been there in a while, so I don't know if they still do.

Oooo, good call. Of course, almost forgot about SA's Mil Spec. I'll have to price the two at the local G.S. tomorrow. Thank you.

SW1911

My SW1911 is the original stainless version. It is still box-stock. $675 before taxes.

It was so good, it won my heart and became my primary CCW.

I always like S&W semi-auto quality, but hated traditional DA. Now, I have S&W auto quality in a 1911. Good stuff.

I bought this one a few weeks ago, I've got about 500 rds. through it so far and have had 1 stovepipe as the only problem, pretty good for a stock 1911, It's a stainless Springfield mil-spec G.I. model, it doesn't have the tightest slide to frame fit but it's smooth and has a good trigger, and it hits where you aim it. I paid $499 for it, but I like supporting the local gunshops, they can be found cheaper online.

Nice pic.

The S&W is cheaper than I thought. I may end up pricing the Smith, the Colt and the Springfield tomorrow. I'm sure they hate that, but at least they know me as a cash paying regular. Still, I'd better bring coffee.

Thanks.

SA gave that gun a confusing name, they called it the WW2 Milspec, which I think they now refer to as the GI .45 on their site, but the Mil-spec itself is its own model.

I packed up some trading fodder and hit the local G.S. this morning to do some pricing and comparing. Just so happened he not only had someone in mind for what I was trading, he also had a stainless SA Mil-Spec under the glass. One of only six 1911s he had in stock and one of the few SA Mil-Specs he's been able to get his hands on. So of course I got it. $500 for NIB with two mags, two sets of grips (black plastic and nice wood) and SA's patented kydex belt slide. I'll work on posting a pic tomorrow. Killing me that I don't have time to try it out today, but I'm sure I'll get to that before week's end.

Thanks all for the input.

I have a GI and after very little tweaking (springs/barrel bushing), it is a real tack driver. It's the maytag of 1911's. Just keeps going and going and going. It also fed all types of jhp ammo right out of the box. I can't say that about my last Colt.
