U.S. tourists busted for Winnebago gun arsenal

By Gerry Bellett, Vancouver Sun July 22, 2011 3:03

Two American tourists spent five days in jail, put up $50,000 each in bail and are facing three years behind bars after border guards seized a small arsenal of firearms at the U.S.-Canada border crossing last week. The incident was just one of a number of recent cases in which Americans have had their weapons seized and face accusation of failing to declare them upon entering Canada.

So if they just declared them, they would have been allowed to have them and/or transport them in Canada?

Too bad for these guys, but I treat Canada, like I treat New Jersey, or New York. I just don't bring any guns.

No, but they would have been allowed to turn around and come back to the States without going to jail!

You can hunt in Canada if you are an American and bring in your guns for hunting. Canada has paperwork to fill out and you guns have to be of a type they allow there. It's actually quite common.

That said, I was always careful when I went over the bridge to check myself and my car for any stray ammo or any gun related paraphernalia. I did not want any extra attention. On a couple of occasions my car was singled out for a search pretty much randomly. It was most likely my age, as the legal drinking age in Canada is 19 so a LOT of kids from Detroit used to go over there to the casinos and booze it up. I am a teatotaller, however, so no worries there.

Once I had left a basball bat in my trunk and I got grief over it. No big deal, but a waste of time.

I always made sure any girls with me had left pepper spray at home. That is a non-no over there as well.

meh.

sensational article written by nanny-state conditioned reporter
"It seems they believe they have to have guns to protect their property," he said.
{sarc}
Because nobody could ever have a need more pressing that property protection for a weapon

And an arsenal manufacturers ammunition, that was a small personal armory.

Overblown case by our anti gun nanny neighbors in Canada. It is hard to believe our government can not hammer out a deal where we can keep our rights when we drive across the border so we can get to Alaska. The Reporter never seen a real Arsenal, all the defendant had was a small personal collection. I hope Gov. Rick Perry raises cain with the Cannucks over this Bull Crap.

That's why I don't go to Canada any more. I used to drive up to N.Y. then go up into Canada and straight across to Michigan. Now I go the longer way down around the Great Lakes, since Canada has such screwed up laws. No pepper spray?! Give me a break...

derringer-type pistol, a cowboy-style revolver, three semi-automatic pistols and a shotgun.
Not what i think of when the word arsenal is used.

Once when i went to canada during a search they discovered a box of MiniMags. It was buried deep in th trunk and i had forgotten about it. You'd think it was a homemade bomb the way they reacted. After a stern lecture I was sent on my way, minus a box of MiniMags.
