How would ya'all rate the russian products? Biathlon and SM2?

I'm looking to get a 22lr rifle, bolt action. Is russian the way to go, or stick with the well known name brands?

Tman- check out the review I posted in the rifle forum. Plenty of info with pictures. Personally I really like the Russian guns; but the CZs are really hard to beat from a price standpoint. The Russian fit and finish leaves somthing to desire, but they shoot like a house on fire.

I agree. As far as quality of wood etc.. If you find a nice CZ-452 LUX or American or Varmint with nice walnut you will be happy. They are bolt action and shoot great. If you want the option of iron sights get the LUX version.
I am also really happy with the little Biathlon Basic, but the wood and finish on the metal leaves something to be desired. It does shoot though...
If you are on a budget the 452 Trainer versions are cheaper. I now have two CZ .22's and the Biathlon Basic (along with a bunch of other .22's) - If you can afford only one, I think I would lean towards the CZ, just because it is finished nicer overall.

Anschutz, to my knowledge, is the only manufacturer of LH Fortner actions and I also believe this action is only available on biathlon rifles. My wife recently competed in the US Summer Biathlon Nationals this past August. At that match, there was only 1 LH Fortner (Anschutz). As I am a lefty I asked about it. It was bought used in West Yellowstone by a smith, also a world class biathelete, who specializes in biathlon rifles.
