Yet another AR photo thread- this time, let's see your large framed ARs, whether it's in 308 Win., 260 Rem or other caliber. No "little" framed ARs, it's the the big boys turn. Post a photo, tell us why you picked this rifle and & caliber and what it's used for. Bonus points if you include action photos

Mine is an S&W M&P-10, chosen because S&W had done an excellent job with their M&P-15. The Big Smith uses forged receivers with ambidextrous controls and an 18" barrel with a profile that handles heat well while keeping the weight of the rifle down. Price also had a lot to do with my choice I went with the 308 because of it's power and because I've always wanted an AR type rifle in that caliber. I plan to use this rifle for hunting and some informal long range shooting.

Compared to a "little" AR carbine. This is how the Big Smith was configured when I first brought it home

It's undergone a few changes along the way. Photos of the latest changes including a sporty new paint job

Let's see what big AR you've got!

No doubt the .50 Beowulf throws a big bullet, but isn't that a small framed AR?

Mine would be a custom Armalite AR10(T) with a match barrel. Why Armalite? Because 20 years ago unlike today the selection of AR10 flavors was limited and I built it 20 years or so ago. :)

Nice rifle, Ron. I gather it's a 308? What kind of competition is it set up for?

Here's my POF P308 with a Geissele DMR trigger, Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm FFP scope and MAGPUL PRS stock. It now has an AAC 51T flash hider for an AAC 762-SDN-6 suppressor. I bought it because I was impressed with my other POF P415 chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and wanted a .308 Win version. I was hoping to use it for hog hunting when I was living in AR but I guess I'll use it for deer or elk up in MT. I plan on sending the scope back to Leupold to have them retrofit milrad (M5) adjustments and I'll change the M.R.R. out for the nicer M-rail.

Thank you, I used it for NRA High Power. I really enjoyed that rifle and it went through several changes over time. I have a shorter barrel around here somewhere w/ hand guard. Maybe this summer I'll get it out to the range as it's been awhile. Much as I enjoy that rifle I really enjoy my match M1A which I shot quite a bit more. Finally retired I can have the time to really enjoy my shooting. :)

Small frame but big barrel and bore, but then again that's what really counts right? :D

If you want to see a large frame then here you go; the FD308.

The small framed, big bore ARs already have their own thread (showcasing some impressive rifles) but this one is dedicated to ARs that can handle 308 class cartridges and larger, meaning 30-06 class and 338 Lapua class ARs are also welcome.

That's a good looking rifle, TIMC. Is it a 308? How's it shoot? Can you tell us more about it?

1853, how much will it cost to have your scope turrets changed to milrad? That's another good looking rifle. How much does it weight? How's it shoot?

Thank you, Yes it is in .308 and made by F&D Defense in New Braunfels, Texas.

I've had the rifle for almost 6 months now and was able to get some hunting time in with it this last year and have done a lot of bench work with it. The rifle is a sub moa shooter if I do my part. My longest kill last year was on a pig at 242 yards while running the rifle suppressed with 165 grain bullets. This is my only piston driven AR and I think it is going to be my favorite hunting rifle.

What impressed me the most about the rifle when I first picked it up was the slim feel which made it very comfortable to handle and gives the feel more like an AR-15 than an AR-10 style rifle. The rifle is easy to work with in the field or on the bench and the side charging handle is nice. The rifle also has an easily adjustable gas system.

The down side is they are pricey but then again all the top AR's are and I did have to wait 16 months for the rifle but the end result was worth it. I would love to have one in 6.5 Creedmor or .260 Remington.

Thanks! According to Leupold it's $135 to swap out the adjustments. I sent a pair of Mark 4s to them a couple of years ago for the swap only to be told that I had been misinformed. Now it seems that they're actually able to do it.

The POF above is probably around 9lb but I'll try to weigh it this weekend. It shoots very well. Here's a seven shot group using Remington Hog Hammer 168gr loads. It's done much better with handloads.

henschman, tell us more about your pig slayer. The forend tube looks like a Noveske. The rifle looks well thought out and all business. Reminds me of my .450 Bushmaster.

MP10 Warne rings Leupold 2-7 scope. Magpul stock. CMMG 2 stage non adj. trigger.

and extra bonus points for including bacon in your photo!

There are more big framed ARs out there than this. Anyone got a NEMO in 338 Lapua?
