big box outdoor store inattention to detail

A while Back I bought a Savage 17HMR from Gander Mountain, with some ammo and accessories. Got it home and it was a 17HM2. Brought it back the next day and they got me the right one promptly.

We all make mistakes, how we fix them is the important part. Both as the customer and the seller. When I worked retail I was constantly amazed at the number of customers who thought that yelling and being a jerk was going to make the staff want to help them. What it does is make them do the least they can to make you go the h*** away.

Big box stores are a great place to look at and handle the actual firearms, but IME not a great place to buy.

Go to the big box store to see if you like it, then go to a local FFL and order it from them. I have saved 100-150 bucks per gun doing that.

Just my .02,

No different than anywhere else. At lowes I often get charged wrong for lumber. They charge 8 ft price for 10 ft board or 1/2 price for 3/4 plywood. I have seen lots of times where a person buys ammo and gets wsm or wssm instead of win, or 25-06 rather than 30-06, 357 mag rather than 357 sig...it's inattention to detail costing retailers and often customers lots of money. The problem I saw recently at walmart self checkout was interesting. Guy pushes a cart to the self checkout and goes to scanning his groceries. Has a 50 ish inch TV as well. Types in upc from dogfood or something else to get his 400 dollar TV for 20 bucks...he was escorted out the door in cuffs. Again, it's attention to detail, no telling how much money was lost before they figured this guy out or how many times he had gotten by with it. Retailers need to pay more attention to what they are selling to verify that people are getting what they want and paying for it appropriately.
