Hey folks. I'm looking for hunting holster advice. I have a Magnum Research short cylinder 7.5" and a Ruger Super Redhawk 7.5", one of which I'd like to take out hunting this year.

Anyone recommend a particular bandolier-type holster? I see the ones for scoped handguns, but I wont have either one scoped.

Also, I'd rather not spend too much on it if at all possible. Maybe $60 or so? Definitely looking at a synthetic material of some sort.

Any suggestions?

Also, am I making a mistake considering a bandolier? I do wear coveralls when hunting. Unfortunately, they dont have belt loops. This kinda ties me to a bandolier I think, right?

i wear a 7.5" scoped ruger redhawk 480 in a shoulder harness type thing. works pretty well, actually, and supports and distributes the weight of the gun pretty well. you will need to modify the holster retention straps a little if you do a lot of crouching-standing-walking-climbing during your hunt - it invariably pops loose, and lets the gun just kind of flop around in the holster. i do like the holster quite abit - that is quiet, and holds the gun firmly in place. rig is by uncle mike.

i picked it up for ~$40 or so.

I have an Uncle Mike's Shoulder holster for my 7.5" Ruger Hunter and it works great so far for me and was cheap to boot.

Uncle Mikes and AMS both make nice bandolier type holsters for scoped guns that are functional and comfortable in nylon for around $50.

I've been figuring on having a bandolier-rig made, from which I can hang one of my existing holsters. Set it up for different handguns. Since my cancer surgery, I don't wear a waist belt anymore. I mostly wear coveralls.

Used to be, when out quail hunting during deer season, I'd just use a GI pistol belt and a leather holster mounted for cross-draw with my Redhawk. Gotta protect against attack by an irate Bambi. :) The cross-draw location meant I could sling my shotgun and not scratch the stock.

I use o bandolier type for my .44 SuperBlackHawk 7 1/2". It is synthetic and works OK. My only complaint is that it makes some noise when you draw - I don't think a leather one would.

I have the one that Cabelas sells for my Ruger 9.5" scoped 480. I have been very pleased with the price and functionality of the holster. It's cheaper than the Uncle Mikes version, but similar.

If you are interested in a shoulder rig let me know. I have a Uncle Mike's nylon shoulder holster I would sell for $20.00 to your door. I bought it for a 10.5 inch super blackhawk and would have to check out the model # to see if it would work.

Revo,
I have a number of N Frame S&W, and Ruger SA .44 and .45 caliber revolvers. I love to have one with me when hunting. I have found that a good full flap cross draw holster works well for me in the very dense cover I perfer to hunt in.

Sam Andrews in Alachua Florida, makes these.

look at the selecton "Western and Field Rigs", for Crossdraw.
