Wondering if someone can help me out here. I recently picked up a Colt XSE LW Commander and really like the gun, but I don't particularly like the reddish rosewood grips. I saw some used Kimber black rubber grips on eBay the other week that looked just like them, but I failed to pursue the auction. They were the double-diamond design and even cut out for the ambi-safety, so they should have fit nicely on the Colt. Does anyone know where I can find some rubber ones like those? Anyone know the particular Kimber model that they would have come on? I can find ebony wood grips just like the rubber ones, such as these from Hogue, but I would prefer the rubber (I may just end up getting the ebony ones, though)...

Note - I'll need them notched for the factory ambi-safety lever arm.

Thanks!

stop by the 1911forum and browse their classifieds, theres a buncha people selling the rubber grips off their custom II or TLE.

Also check the other 1911 forums such as m1911.org and the 1911 owners group.

Good luck.

I went thru the same search for a long time before I had to "settle" - I bought a pair of Colt medalion rubber grips (on EBay), then "cut" out the ambi notch myself with a sharp blade and sand paper - rather easy actually. Be aware you may/will also have to shape the top of the panels to fit, but again, with the proper tools (file, belt sander or Dremel) and using the rosewoods as templates, it is rather easy. I am very happy with the results, and it cost me like $20.

I've got some brand new take-off black rubber grips from my NRM Colt Commander I'd trade ya! Can't recall if they have the diamonds or not, but they aren't cut for ambi safety.

I have that same pistol for carry. I stuck thinline alumagrips on it with what they call tactical checkering. Couldn't be happier.

I think the Kimber's you are talking about come on their pro-carry (at least that's what came on mine).

I also have a set of Pearce black rubber with the diamonds and they seem kinda cheap to me.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. I haven't seen "exactly" what I'm looking for with the rubber grips, but the more I think about it, those ebony grips are really starting to tug on my wallet. I'm going to try to hold out until the next gun show (end of Feb), and I want to arm myself with prices and manufacturers so I know if I'll get a good deal or not. I've been surfing eBay, Gun Broker, and Guns America when possible. I may also stop at my local Kimber dealer and see if he has any in stock. Thanks, again.
