Blued Sights on Stainless Steel Ruger GP100

I noticed that Ruger GP100 revolvers have front and adjustable rear sights that are blued, while the rest of the gun is stainless steel.

The only explanation that I can think of is that blued sights caused less reflective glare than stainless when the gun is sighted during daylight hours.

I am interested in this because I will be chroming a blued revolver soon.

What are you thoughts?

the stainless security six my father bought last year has blued sights as well. My stainless P90, P93, and P94 all have blued sights too.

The rear sight of a GP100 is aluminum. The front sight is a matte blue though.

Black sights are much easier to use than silvery shiny ones.

If you chrome your revolver, be sure they don't do the sights. I had one chromed a few years ago and didn't think to leave any special instructions regarding the sights. As a matter of routine (I guess) the gun cam back with a nice matt chrome finish with the sights remaining blue. I would leave special instructions, just in case. Much easier to see the sights when they are blue.

I have seen guns come back from the refinisher with EVERYTHING refinished, whether it made sense or not. I would provide detailed instructions, and have them sign off on it if possible, I have found you can write everything down, get a confirm, and it will still be completely wrong. Ruger blues their sights because they have always had a decent idea of what works. Colt and Smith & Wesson often did stupid things like plating the sights at various times, making them very hard to see.
