This was a hunt at Fort Hunter Liggett in CA in March of 2005 with Rick (Westy). We were actually trying to roost some turkeys when Rick spotted some hogs down below us. Another turkey hunter spotted the same hogs and stalked them for a shot below us. He missed and the hogs ran up the ridge to Westy where he wacked the big boar.

On the slo-mo you can see two puffs of dirt from the 7mm hitting the hog and then exiting the hide on the far side.

Boar weighed 275 lbs. on the Fort scale and didn't have much for ivory, maybe an inch. Pretty tough animal to take a 7mm in the boiler room and not even flinch and still make the top of the ridge on the run.

Camcorder was a Canon GL-2.

Looked to me like the shot might have been a little high and back. Did it hit lungs? I usually like to hit 'em square in the shoulder and a little low or head if possible. The vitals are all under the shoulder. Get much rear of the shoulder and all you get is abdomen. I'm never in open country like that, though. Pretty country. Sheesh, where I hunt, 100 yards is a long shot. Spot and stalking hogs, who'd a thunk it. :D

1st shot hit the pig about halfway up side behind the shoulder, took out both lungs. 2nd shot he missed. Pig died just over the top of the ridge, thank god. If he had made it down that other side of the ridge it would have been a chore to get him out. Real thick nasty steep stuff with poison oak everywhere.

7mm Whisper, PPC, BR, 7x47, 7m-08, .280 Rem, what?

The puff of dirt is from the hide on the near side, not the bullet exiting.

And it's the absolute worst hunting video music in the history of the universe.

Despite all that, thanks for sharing. :p :) Pretty country there!

Actually Premium, if you look at it close you'll see two rings of dust come off the pig. One on the near side and one on the far side.

7MM mag, Rem 700 if I remember right.

The music is all I had that is legal for me to use, royalty free. I'm not about to lock horns with BMG or SOny over using their artists music like the woman in PA who just got sued over her YouTube video that used Prince's music in it. And she wasn't even a company, it was a personal video.

Ahhh, ok, "7mm mag". Which one? Dakota, STW, RUM, WSM, RSAUM, Rem, what? Good grief almighty.....

Don't blame you for not wanting to violate copyright laws - I personally wouldn't worry about it, but granted, I'm not up to speed in that area.

Hmm, ok, didn't notice the one on the far side....

Well, since it was mentioned, I actually liked the music myself, and it looked like a fun hunt! ;)

Premium Sauces you're killen me :D. 7mm Rem mag. The one that kicks like a mule.

bigcim, Westy shot the hog. We knew the hogs would run uphill once the hunter below us spooked them so Westy took off around the left ridge to flank them. I stayed at the truck in case they ran dead away from the hunter below. People say hogs can't see very far, I still call BS on that. In this video you see the hogs run half way up the ridge and stop. They check the ridgeline for danger and then continue running uphill. The boar just missed Westy sneaking down the spine of the ridge.
