Does it really matter?

I'm more for it than against it but with the speed I can load an AK mag and rack the bolt, to me it doesn't seem that a bolt catch will be any more help.

It seems ideal for close quarters fighting but if you take a look at other groups like the Russian swat teams or spetznas, they all use an AK of sorts which don't have a bolt catch and button. I assume they don't care for it.

So is it a matter of taste or necessity?

The one thing I can think of is the ability to keep the bolt open during a 'cease fire' at a range. Many RO's don't like a closed bolt when changing targets.

If you practice tactical re-loading it shouldn't be an issue because you don't run the magazine empty so you don't need to work the bolt.
