What if a guy finds himself in a place where he's more worried about being confronted by a bad dog than a bad person?

Would a Bond Arms .45/.410 derringer loaded with 3" number 4 shot loads be a viable weapon for use against a charging "bad dog"? How about two of them?

Why or why not? Comments invited.

hmm id rather go with the 45 than the 410 just because i doubt any dog could still come at you after

As a "deterrent" or as a weapon?

As a weapon a .410 in a tiny barrel, and only two shots, seems pretty paltry.

As a deterrent, I'd think the owner would be pretty upset if you blinded their dog with a shotload, probably better to get some kind of irritant spray. That way you could use it more or less freely without doing any permanent harm.

Almost all the conventional wisdom says that derringers are fun novelties, but for actual defense you want a standard revolver or auto, like most CCW folks carry.

Just make sure you kill the thing. You could make your life a whole lot worse in court if you dont. If you insist on 45/410 go with the Judge. It is about the same weight and you get 5 chances to finish it off.
