Finally picked up my first real 1911 today, and it is a beauty. I took a few quick pictures to share with THR, and will probably have more when I get to take it to the range.

It looks like it's a fine gun so far, with a great finish.

tl;dr: I am very excited.

Thanks, I'll be sure to include pictures of it in action when I get the chance.

So far, I've noticed one odd thing about the chamber... there seems to be this little gap on the right side between it and the slide. It looks as if the chamber isn't properly closed. Can anyone offer some opinions on this?

found your ejection port/barrel matchup question answered elsewhere:

if you're concerned, RIA maintains a presence on facebook with the CEO and gunsmiths answering questions ... post your picture there with a short description and you'll probably get a straight answer

I'll check my 2 Armscor .45 1911s and my TCM for similar, I've never noticed a gap there, but then I've never looked for one either.

Thanks for the help! I've tried searching for 1911 chamber gap, but I get all these results involving the .45 Glock Automatic Pistol cartridge.

Your signature leads me to believe that you are a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is.

my towel is nearby and so is a backup towel if needed

the search term that worked was "RIA ejection port", then I filtered by images and looked for a similar gap

===

I had a picture of the serial# on one of my Armscor 45's in the cloud - it does not have the gap, but it is a compact/officer size
I'll check the 4" upper I have mounted to a CS lower if I remember after work, but someone with a current production fullsize GI model or similar would be more helpful.

Thanks for that. I checked my 2010 model Tactical and no gap. Never had any ejection issues either and my brass is usually undinged when I pick it up.

That's a nice pistol in the OP. The only nickel RIAs I've seen here in Kalifornistan are .38 Super. I've always thought they would look tres chic with black MOP grips and gold accents. ;)

I don't have gold accents, but I did manage to acquire a set of Hogue rubber grips.

A friend of mine had one a few years back and asked me to do some work on it to make it easier to shoot. So I took it all apart and was quite impressed with not only the fitting of the slide and frame but also of all the internal parts as well. Overall fit and finish were first rate. I found the nickel plating to be very evenly applied throughout the entire gun and compared very favorably with similar U.S. built guns that were plated.

It's a loaded chamber indicator - the gap will be there whether or not the round is chambered, but the idea is that if the round is chambered you will be able to look into the gap and see the case rim

My experience with RIA has been fantastic. I have used a RIA compact for a carry gun and loved it. Dead realiable, accurate, and very affordable.

I have a RIA tactical, and it's been a great gun. Zero malfunctions, ever. RIA definitely puts out a good product for the price.

Enjoy it my friend. A good gun for the money.
I Have 3 ATI 45's made in the Philippines, all are flawless out of the box

My 4" RIA upper has a gap there, but not as large as yours, Solo.
I still don't think it is of concern, did you ever contact RIA/Armscor about it?

I think I'll just shoot it. It doesn't seem to affect the pistol's function as of yet, and I doubt it'll cause the gun to KB. I will hopefully find out in a week or so.
