Taking advantage of the recent bubble burst on the AR market, I obtained one of those evil black rifles.

I had never been too sure about it, but I finally pulled the trigger. I think my most favorite feature is the magazine release button. Damn, that's convenient!

The build is a stripped Yankee Hill Machine lower, a Double Star parts kit and a UTG A2 stock. The upper is also from Yankee Hill, but I was able to get it for a really good deal on gunbroker where it also came with the BCG and charging handle.

Haven't shot it yet, but hoping to get out soon. I did part with the pictured sights already. Upgrading those to the YHM Quick Deploy sights instead.

LOL Congrats. Your enthusiasm comes thru! Now relax and try shooting it for awhile. They are really very nice rifles and fun to shoot.

Be safe.

Nice!

I am curious about the decision to use an A2 fixed stock, though. Comfort-wise, it made sense a few years ago, but with all the options for collapsibles now, I just can't see it. Maybe with budget constraints, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with this build...

That's a nice lookin' AR.

I predict you'll own a few more in the coming years. I own three now, always looking for another one.:D

I'm curious as well why the OP went with the A2 stock setup. IMO it only goes well with 20inch barrel and rifle length handguard.

But if you like it, then its all good!

Anytime I've been around a collapsible stock I extended it to the full position. Never been a fan of shorter settings, just felt awkward. It is a rifle length hand guard. Just a 16" barrel.

I've built ARs using Daniel Defense, RRA and YHM barrels. All work great; however, my "go-to" AR is the one with the YHM fluted barrel. I'm using the excellent JP fire control system and have it sighted with a CT green laser and Bushnell TRS-25 red dot.

If I were trying to gain admission into the Rambolistas Wannabe club, I'd probably go with an ACOG! ;)

Same here. All of my AR type rifles have a fixed stock and only one of them is scoped, only because it was a good deal when I bought it. My early experiences with an AR were with a M16A2 which worked for me and I just never had any desire to go with a collapsible stock configuration. I guess simply because the A2 stock configuration is something I am comfortable with.

@ Hurricane, nice rifle, now get out and choot it! :)

I used to do that, too. Then I started using optics and doing drills with them. I now find that the 3rd or 4th position with a collapsible is optimal for most uses, allowing better maneuverability & control. The only time I fully extend them is for bench work or varmint shooting.

For the record, I am not a small person. 5'10" with a 6'5" armspan; my Browning BPS 10 ga is not uncomfortable.

It's your rifle, so your choice. If you are happy with the A2 stock, more power to ya. I was just curious. For future reference, if you like a long LOP, there are a number of carbine stocks that can actually be shorter and longer than an A2 stock.

My LOP is also with the stock fully extended. But a collapsible stock makes for much easier storage and carrying the rifle for me.
