I've looked through a lot of scopes at Cabelas, Gun Shows, etc, shot through scopes on buddies rifles, but when it came to buying my own, I suffered from perpetual Analysis Paralysis.

Finally pulled the trigger & ordered my first one this morning.

A Meopta Optika6 1-6x24 SFP with the 4C reticle.

European Glass made in the Czech Republic for $465 shipped (Dvor.com)

I was about all set to order one of the Leupold Vx-Freedom 3-9 scopes (the 30mm tube Firedot Duplex version) but since this is going on a build to be used for hog hunting, a 1-x seemed more appropriate.

There's some controversy as to whether or not the illumination on the Optika6 line is "daylight bright" but on a sub $500 optic, I'm okay if it's not quite there. Quality glass for daytime with illumination that works in low light conditions is fine with me.

Shipping time was listed as 1-3 weeks. Now, I wait & see if I made the right choice. No pangs of buyers remorse yet. I feel good about it.

I have more Leupold and Meopta scopes than any other brand.
Leupold: VX-2, VX-R and VX-3
Meopta: all MeoPro
To my eyes my MeoPros are better in low light than my Leupold’s, especially the VX-2. What I don’t know is how Optika glass compares to MeoPro. I also don’t believe any Leupold VX line scope has true 1x magnification as you have alluded to.

I like my Leupold’s a lot, but like my Meopta’s a little better.

I forgot to mention reticles. Excluding Rimfire rifles I prefer German #4’s. Not all of my scopes have them but most do, if they don’t it means a #4 wasn’t available. I don’t twist turrets and other than coyotes it seems as if the vast majority of shots I take are in low light. The reason I mentioned this is because you ordered a #4 on your Optika.

Ok cool, there's a place up your way to hunt pigs. There just released, but the price was not bad if you just want meat. It's on the Susquehanna river, I can't remember the name tho. Tioga hunting preserve was once good but don't think it's the same owner anymore,if you want a European boar.

I'd like to do a Texas hog hunt, guess there pretty cheap,

IMO, scopes are about a gazillion times better than previous years. Today’s moderate priced scopes are far superior to the higher quality scopes of 70’s and 80’s.

Just make sure you get it mounted for the correct positioning for your shooting, and make sure the reticule is square to the bore.

Got the shipping notice this afternoon. Now waiting on the slow brown truck.
Yay! looking forward to hearing about what you think. Ive never played with any Meopta, but have heard pretty much nothing but good about them.

So, first impressions:
It's not a Leupold. Even "price point" (VX-Freedom, for example) Leupold glass is brighter than this & has a more forgiving eyebox from my admittedly limited experience. The colors through the scope are a shade darker than they appear to the naked eye. You might think this means I'm displeased with my choice. Nope, not at all.

At the price I paid ($465.34 delivered), there's nothing in its class. Leupold certainly doesn't make a 1-6x until you pay almost 2x as much. For a hunting rifle, I'm good.

It blows away (better glass clarity & eyebox) Vortex Strike Eagles & Sig's lower tier stuff.

The next step up from this would be a Trijicon Accupoint which is also a substantial jump in price.

For my first scope, so far I'm happy.

Looks good, how are the turrets?

Audible, tactile, &...like they were made in an Eastern European factory, which they were, so... Perhaps not a Schmidt & Bender, but I'm not complaining.

Also, the illumination is what I'd call daylight bright enough. It does wash out on a bright background under bright light, but anything short of that, it's definitely visible. If it's THAT bright out, the etched reticle will do the job.

Just need to throw a set of Diamondhead BUIS on there & it's done.

Meanwhile, I just bought an 18 inch fluted Dez Arms barrel off a guy on the 6.5 Grendel forum. It never ends.
I dig it, all sharp angles and edges.

And yes Ars are a chronic disease...Probably a virus. Just when u think you got rid of them, one will mutate and come back stronger than before
