My 3rd model came as a cased set with a brass bullet mold.
I tied to cast a few balls with it. I had a difficult time. Even with leather welding gloves I could not hold the mold and there was some much flashing that the balls were useless. The spruce was could not be cut off with the cutter and had to be whittled off with a pocket knife. It was supposed to cast one ball and one conical.

Any of you had any luck using the provided mold?

Joe

As I thought

It looks like the molds are a POS on a good day. Looks like if I want to use them I will have to fiddle around some to get the mold to fit tight and make some handles.
I did like the broom handle with hose clamps.

glad to see I was not the only one to try the original style molds.
Thanks
Joe

Freddy is correct. If you get the mold hot enough to cast good bullets they are way to hot to hold. Even then the diameter may not be correct and then there is the sprue problem.

For $18 you can get the Lee mold of your choice and not burn your hands and it comes with a functioning sprue cutter. Leave the display mold in your case.

Also check Ebay for used molds, unless badly handled, used molds are good for years. I always check the ratings of the sellers and any negative comments, I have several used molds including an LBT that usually sells for over $100 new that was lightly used and a steal at $30. I also used my brass mold that came with one of my guns, I sharpened the edge of the sprue cutter with a dremel, using a diamond ball head and going carefully, I also did the broom handle and hose clamps that I still use.

I cast with my Remington pattern mold, I don't have anything bad to say about it. It's pocket sized, makes some decent plinking ammo, and looks pretty darn cool. I don't smoke the mold, I use some really hot lead, and I can actually get pretty decent conicals with it. You do have to tweak it a little when you get it though to make the two halves of the mold line up.

I have also heard about other members here putting empty .410's on the handles to make them easier to hold, that could be very useful.
