Does anyone have any experience with the Brazilian M94 Mauser 7MM? I found a sporterized one in reasonably good shape and I am thinking of buying it. It is from the FN factory. I was wondering if it was strong enough to use as a hunting rifle with modern ammo. In Frank de Hass' 4th edition of Bolt Action Rifles he said they are somewhat more rare than the 93's and 95's that were made for the army's of other countries, and not as much is known about the 94s.

Thanks in advance for your response!

Strength-wise, they should be similar to either the 93 or 95. Most of the Model 94's were swedes, but Brazil bought some also. There are some slight differences between the Swede 94 and the others. I can't remember them off the top of my head.

I wouldn't hesitate to use most factory 7x57 in it. There are a few that are loaded to 50,000 CUP instead of the standard 45,000. I know that Barnes reloading data is based on the higher pressure.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

I have two Spanish model 93 mausers in 7x57. Similar to the 94 Brazilian. Great rifles in my opinion. Very accurate for their age, with original barrels. One is a 1931 Oviedo carbine rework and the other, a 1932 Oveido long rifle. I handload all my ammo and keep pressures in the standard levels around 44,000 CUP and less. I shoot 160grns @ 2400 fps, 140 grns @ 2500fps and 130 grns @ 2600fps these loads are plenty good for Black bear, Hogs & Deer out to 200-250yds. I have read that they are not the greatest gas handling actions in the event of a primer or case rupture (blows back in the shooters face). Mine have never failed me, and I have the utmost confidence in them, and would buy another in a heartbeat. I would love to build a Model 98 into a 7mm mauser and see what true potential can be wrung out of that round. 7mm bullets are great flyers and good killers! A guy named "Bell" killed lots of elephants in Africa," back in the day" with a .275 Rigby (7x57 mauser) with 175grn solids @ around 2400-2500 fps, an amazing feat attributed to that cartridge and that hunter. That "Brazilian 94" should be a great rifle if it's in good shape. Good Luck on your decision.

You might find a number of 7x57 guys at both "Surplusrifle", "Gunboards", even "Gunandgame".

Maybe you've seen the (7mm) Chilean Mauser video by "Iraqveteran8888" on Youtube, hitting a small gong from 400 yards with the iron sights.
