Hi, I have an offer for $300 + shipping for this Brno Vz 24 with sharp rifling BUT mismatched bolt. Is it safe to shoot you think? Pictures:

Thanks for the input!

Safe to shoot but quite overpriced. Fair market on a Vz-24 runs about $100 (rough, mismatch, no crest) to $300 (Rampant Lion Crest, matching, mint), and yours is not at the upper end of the scale, and appears refinished as well.

Adding in shipping and transfer costs...

Hi, forgot to mention this is in Canada. So the only place selling them retail is $425 + tax and shipping. This is private, and I guess considerable cheaper.

Can you tell me more? Is it a Soviet-capture arsenal refurbish? And you mentioned the stock has been refinished? It looks decently refinished.

What does the lack of crest mean? Export rifle?

Okay, Canada, it's probably not unreasonable, especially person-to-person. It looks like a sand-and-reblue, so at least it's been thoroughly nicened. The edges of the wood are rounded, though, and the bluing is too fresh, so you can tell it's been done over.

Soviets never really captured/redid these and then surplussed them, as I understand it, though there were some from Romania and the balkans that were contract production and did come to North America. With no crest and no obvious remnants of one, it looks like a surplussed or contract/export rifle, depending on serial block.

It should be safe to shoot if it headspaces, and with all the widgets (sight protector, sling, rod), I can't say it's a bad example.

My caution was simply because, presuming it was in the US and you were quoting a price in USD it would be about twice market value.

Wow, 400 for it. I paid 144 for mine 0.o But I guess prices in Canada are a lot higher than in the US. I also had no idea that P2P sales were legal in Canada. Learn something everyday I guess.

In answer to your question, dak0ta, a mismatched bolt should be ok to use. My vz. 24 was turned into a sniper by the Romanians after WWII. They put on a non matching turned down bolt, and it's been functioning fine since the 40s. So I wouldn't worry about it.

On a side note, why is that sight leaf so worn. Is it to highlight the numbers, or is it a replacement that doesn't match the finish?

I think I'm going to pass on the rifle. More pictures revealed pitting on the side sling swivel and butt plate. It's a Romanian contract rifle.
