I managed to break the loading gate on my H&R 949 today, while I was cleaning it. I'm going to try and locate a new gate for it but in the mean time, is it safe to shoot? It's a nine shot and the loading area is 2 chambers away from the barrel. It's my first and only revolver so I don't have much experience with wheel guns. So, does anybody know if it's safe to shoot without a loading gate in place?

Also, anybody know where i can get a new gate for it?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. I just checked the site and they show one. I'll call them tomorrow.

I ordered the part

Thanks for the replies. I expected that it was safe to shoot because I had seen pictures of other H&R revolvers that were made without a gate. I did locate and order the part from Numrich today. I ordered an extra gate in case I break another one! Numrich has a coupon code (1630) to save $4.95 on shipping, in case you guys need to place an order.

Thanks again for the help and safe shooting. :)

Thanks for the code!

Just a word of thanks: just used the coupon code for shipping on an order- worked great!

Good luck with the loading gate...

So, how did it go?

Just curious how the job went. Did you install the new loading gate yourself? I just received the same part and am getting ready to install mine on the same revolver. Anything in particular I need to beware of?
