Could look at the ior valdada to. There a bit more but here there super good, any reviews on the brownells scope?
Just on Brownells, seemed positive.
Ill look into them, Ive read good things be never had one in hand
Im still planning this thing out in my head, and Ive never really dabbled in the big rifles, using big, heavy scopes.

Buddy wants to do a LRP style rifle in a .338 size cartridge (not that either of us are capable of USING the thing, but im game to assembling something), So it will probably be a .338 Edge using a prethread nutted barrel on...well...something. Like i said not sure what the exact ideas gonna be, then i gotta pitch it to my buddy.

Scope wise, neither of us has had any of the highend scopes, especially the larger ones. Nicest/largest I think HEs had was one of the bigger Trijicons, which i thought was ok but not great. Ive only dabbled in stuff like my Ares BTR which isnt in the same class as what I think were gonna be looking at.

I came very close to doing a 338 edge with my savage. But I don't have the range for it. I comes pretty close to the magic number of a 300 gr at 3000. Could be done with a 30'' tube. I was looking at 28'' tho. I would have looked at the 338lm but my savage was a standard shank crf action. With the large you can do 338 lapua or the Ackley version. That will hit the 300/3000.

Yeah im figuring on using a 30" or so tube. I had one lapua that left a bad taste in my mouth...bloody i think from my teeth clicking shut...anyway, thats why im interested in these scopes. Tho i just realized I linked the 3-18, they have a 5-25 which is what I was orginaly looking at.

This makes me wounder looks similar, some specs are the same just missing the illumination and $150 less.

Ive got a first gen Midas BTR, and Im very happy with it. From what I understand the TACs got better coatings, and turrets. I didnt think about it but ill add it to my list to consider.

All Athlons below the Chronus are made in China, The Chronus Is Japan made, and would probably be a good comparison....tho honestly im out of my depth at that point.

It's very hard with all these new scopes anymore to know what is good or just looks good. Very hard spending money on known scopes, a good warranty helps some. No shops by me would ever buy these new scopes, so buying blind with now hands on. I should see how far camarland is from me.

I have a CSA-2624, and think pretty well of it. It's got a few things that I'd like changed, but it's a good buy for the price. I chatted with the CT rep at the NBS show this fall, and determined that their magnified optics are completely contracted out - designed and built in Japan.

I've only had it for a few months and it's not seen much use in the field (versus the range), but I have formed a few opinions.

So far, I've not noticed any particular color shifts or edge softness or excessive distortions - it easily seems the equal of my VX5HD or Razor HD LH. The repeatability of the adjustments seems accurate (in my limited non-critical use). I find the reticle satisfying for my casual needs, although again I must caveat that I'm not a highly critical world class PRS shooter and I tend to prefer a less-obstructed view where others might prefer a tree with precise holdoff points. I got it for less than $650, and consider it a heck of a value for that price. That's the good.

The meh? It's heavy and big, certainly for what's being sold as a field optic. The eye relief is on the short side of what I'd prefer, but it's workable. Most importantly, the exposed turrets need work - no zero stop, and the adjustment detents are far too mushy and easily moved to be suitable as a field optic. CT either needs to move the design to a covered turret, or increase the spring pressure/depth of the detents significantly - as it stands right now, it seems likely to be way too easy to knock the turret off zero while walking about with the rifle slung / in hand.

I just find it funny that all these non-optics companies all of a sudden get into the scope game. Pretty much all of them are copies of other brands with some having features better than others with the same body design. They all push these mid priced scopes trying to make people think they are as good as top tier optics, their NOT!

I'll spend my money on proven brands that make scopes, not out source them.

It's just history repeating it's self, every few decades it happens.

Contract manufacturing is pretty much the name of the game in most every industry, including the shooting sports. In most cases, it's piece-parts (stocks, grips, and the like) but in many cases its full-up product. I don't mind that so much, as long as the product itself meets my needs.

Do you think that your cell phone is made by the same company whose logo is on the shell?

Ive played with some very nice optics, but never owned any. For what I can do, the higher middling scopes are about all Im willing to spend money on. Im not interested in owning an S&B, top end Nightforce, or the like.
These, and others like the higher end Athlons, Razors, and Bushys, seem to be the best way to get what I want for what Im willing to spend.
If folks seem to like these scopes id be willing to try them. If they seem like a bust, then ill go with a Chronus, or one of the nice Bushys probably, since I want to try those as well and nobody has them here.
