Not that it really matters and I know I can call up Browning HQ and get a certified research letter but I am just trying to figure out the date of manufacture for my Dad's Browning Auto-5 16 ga. It has a serial number whose nomenclature is not listed on the Browning web page. The serial number has two rows of numbers, the top being 2R and the bottom 8xxx9. According to the Paperwork i do have it was purchased Dec. 1964 so it should be around then. Can anyone tell me when this shotgun was manufactured and any other information about it. Also any idea why it is stamped 2R when that is not on the browning website?? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks -Matt
