Hi, Just got a Browning Medalist as a gift:) I was expecting a plain Buckmark or Ruger. It came in the original velvet box with a set of barrel weights, screwdriver & cartridge rack. Its made in Belgium & flawless in wood & blueing. What is it worth? Should I shoot it or put it away? I'm clueless about this pistol ,any info you have will be appreciated. Does any company make slab type grip for it? The wood fore stock & target grips are too bulky for my taste in a field gun. Its way fancy for what I had in mind , But I can't complain being its a gift.:D Thanks for any help.

That gun in excellent cond. with all the accessories and the original box is worth about a $1000. At least this seems to be the price they sell for on the net auctions. It may be worth far more or less depending on many factors but $1000 is a good guess.

I would shoot it but I wouldn't use it as a field gun. Don't put it in a holster or anything. It really wasn't designed for this and is worth too much to abuse in this way.

Someone must really like you to give you a gift like that.

If you want a field gun, go buy a cheaper and smaller pistol that can fit a holster and will be more rugged.

Browning and Ruger make them for about $200 new.

Don't sell it, enjoy it! The Medalist is a great pistol! I would reserve it for range use only, no holsters, no hunting. I love mine!

I have one that I bought used without the box and it was missing the wood foregrip. It did have one barrel weight though. I replaced the wood foregrip. Any grips also made for the Browning Challenger will also fit this gun. Same for barrels. There was a guy selling stuff on E-Bay for a while. Search for Browning Challenger, Nomad or Medalist (individually). I paid under $400 for mine. The boxed set sells on the auction sites for $700-800 or more depending on condition. Look on the auction sites if you are curious about value.

They are great shooting guns. Makes my Ruger Govt. Competition model MKII feel like a real clunker. My Medalist has probably the best trigger I have ever shot.

I have one of these that I bought about 12 years ago in slightly used condition for $700. It came complete with the box and all the weights and things. It is a very attractive gun, with contoured wood grip and forestock and gold plated trigger.

The gun is quite accurate, and shoots better than I can hold it. When shot from rest, it tends to put all the shots in a big, ragged hole in the target.

I believe these were last manufactured about 1975. I became enamored of them when I saw a new one in a gun store in the late '60's. I bought a S&W model 41 instead at that time, but when a burglar got my model 41 years later, I replaced it with the Medalist. I'd say the two guns are fairly equal in accuracy and trigger pull.

Bad pic

I think this might be the worst pic ever posted on THR:D Whatcha want from a $30.00 polaroid 320? Anyway I'm going to use the madalist at the range only to preserve its condition. I'm back at square 1 for a field .22. BTW The Browning site is great! I looked up the medalist's birthdate & ordered a manual online, They have most manuals for downloading.
