I've always wanted a .22 rifle. And especially these days, with
centerfire ammo so expensive. So I bought a Ruger 10/22. I'm
myopic and presbyoptic, so I'm having a scope mounted on it. I
picked out a BSA Sweet .22. The guy at Dick's didn't think it was
the right scope for that rifle, and had he been behind the counter
at an actual gun shop I might have been inclined to listen to him.
Anyone have any experience with this scope?

Not sure why he would say that, other than the manufacturer's page says they are " for target and varmint shooters" and he thinks that's not what you are doing with the rifle? IF you are just shooting at 25 or 50 yard targets you probably don't need all the features (long range trajectory compensation) of that scope, but it would still work just fine for shorter ranges.

I don't know what would be "wrong" with it other than it is a lower end scope that sometimes gets bad reviews.

Sounds like a good fit to me. I've got a BSA 3-9 on a 22mag that's been a good scope. IMO, you need to know what you're looking for before going into Dicks or any other big box store because there's usually no one there that knows what they're talking about.

Hope the new rifle / scope does good for you.

I was running a BSA 36X (I think it was) on my 10/22, but I shoot mine out to 300 yards. It is not a good scope. The glass is horrible. On mine, you can only really go up to about 22X, before the scope is hard to see through.

In short, it does work; but I prefer a better scope. The turrets are also horrible. If you do a lot of dialing, I'd look for something better.

The guy's objection to the scope was that he thought it was too big
for the gun. Which is ridiculous. It's made for a .22. As for the optics,
I'm only going to be using it out to 100 yards.

coondogger . That scope was was made for .22lrs. beside some of us use 4-16 and 6-24 power scopes. Just figure the guys at dicks are no more or less informed about firearm related items than any one else.

BSA is cheap, again, you get what you pay for. on a .22, guess no recoil makes one OK. still cheap optics, if you have a rifle with some recoil and want a scope that wont fail you by fogging etc. and that's all you can afford. I aint a snob, but I do stay away from BSA, Tasco, Leapers, my bottom line would be a good Bushnell or a real good American made Redfield....good deal here.

If you've already bought the scope, try it out. They can be hit or miss.

If yours is a miss, I agree a Bushnell may be the way to go. They've always worked for me. My last Bushnell was around $120, and it even had a parallax ring on the front.
