Okay,

I have more photos with shells done with a trimmed shot wad (petals trimmed) and a teflon wrap. In case you have not read the latest in the first buckshot range report (Buckshot Loads - Range Report!), the distance of the range is 15 yards, not 25 yards. My mistake! This is the HR Pardner Pump with a cylinder choke barrel, 18.5 inches long.

The thing that I noticed with using a trimmed wad and teflon wrap is that my buck groups opened BIG! I'm not sure if this is necessarily a bad thing, since this was shot at 15 yards - 45 feet, more than double the longest shooting distance in my place. Comments, post them! I want to know what I need to do; fix this or leave it alone. I will say, however, that the fit and finish is MUCH better. No dimpling on the hull, it crimps more easily, and it doesn't hang up in my shottie at all. One thing that gave me more room is changing from Hodgdon Universal to Hodgdon HS-6 powders.

I have a more complete powder burn, but not totally like factory shells.

First photo - In the photo, you can see that the group opened so much that one pellet managed to land near the edge of the target NEXT to it! The circle marked yellow is where the wad went through. At least if I miss the bad guy, I can sting him with the wad!

Load data:
Rem Nitro Pheasant HBH (hi brass head) (Unibody)
W209
Hodgdon HS-6 - 30.5 gr
CB1114-12 trimmed with teflon wrap
#00 buckshot, 9 ea
Overshot card - yes

Second photo - Here is where you see a 3-pellet group within 2 inches! Not reproduceable like that! Again, yellow is where the wad went through.

Load data:
Win AA-HS LBH (low brass head)
W209
Hodgdon HS-6 - 30.5 gr
CB1114-12 trimmed with teflon wrap
#00 buckshot, 9 ea
Overshot card - yes

Third photo - Again, yellow is where the wad went through.

Load data:
Win AA-HS LBH
W209
Hodgdon Universal - 24.6 gr
WAA12F114 trimmed with teflon wrap
#00 buckshot, 9 ea
Overshot card - yes
