I have a photo of an M95 LR made in Hungary? This rifle has the Hungarian crest on the receiver with STEYR M95 below it!!! Next bell ringer on this rifle is the side rail has 'BUDAPEST 1909' on it!!!! I have never come across ANY Budapest with 'STEYR' on the receiver, nor with the side rail stamped as this one. Any clues here?

Interesting. The Budapest guns I have seen have had "Budapest" in an arc on the receiver ring with "M95" below it. Could it be a Steyr-made gun which was rebuilt or modified at Budapest?

OK I posted 1 untruth here: STEYR is NOT on the receiver, it is the rampant lion!!!! Bulgarian contract Budapest???????!!!!!??????? I have pics but I need to change format before I can post them.
 
Budapest is, of course, in Hungary, not in Bulgaria, whose capital is Sofia. At that time, Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and arms for the Empire were made both in Austria, at Steyr, and in Hungary, at Budapest.

I struck out on a quick check of just what Bulgaria was using at the time, but they use the Cyrillic alphabet and their arms are marked in that alphabet. I also rather doubt they would have bought arms from the Empire, with which they did not get along. So the actual history of your M95 should be interesting.

Steyr supplied Bulgari with the M95 from 1903 and the last contract yr. was 1914. I have NEVER known of a Budapest rifle marked or supplied to Bulgaria. :banghead:
