Thanks for the discussion! (And my official title is "Senior Stress Analyst.") :)

And since you implied I don't understand complex loading (putting "engineer" in quotes), shims, interference fits and preloaded structures, here's a link to a patent that I was co-awarded last year!

https://patents.google.com/patent/US20170045344

"a first end that interfaces with and is constrained by the nosecone tip and a second end that is connectable to the ring to define with the angled surface a sliding, resistive interface and a shim disposable in the double walled shroud portion to pre-load the sliding, resistive interface and to provide for separation distance between the inner and outer dome elements"

I was the lead structural analyst on this project.

I can be wrong, like anyone, but I like continuing to learn and understand things through discussion. Practical gunsmithing is something I am far from an expert at, which is part of why I ended up here... and a life long love for old guns, but when it comes to the "principles" of structural dynamics and stress, I do know my stuff, graduating number one in my class, doing graduate research through NASA JPL and then moving up through the Structures departments of several top aerospace corporations.

I'm sure there are many things I can learn from you and other's experience here with respect to guns and I'm sure that coming from my background I have other things to offer. My thought is that we can all learn from each other, even though we all bring different strengths to the table.

Best regards!

6.5" and 2.5"

I advise anyone who can find a cheap, used barrel to buy it and chop it down. They turn the 1862 from a cool, small percussion revolver into a serious CCW percussion revolver that blows any of the .31's away.

Not really my thing, but it would be kind of cool!

I'd probably just go for a cute little 380 ACP semi automatic... but if a super cheap 1862 barrel was available, it'd be a fun project!

:)
