This will be a lengthy project because I want to research every part of a 1911. I have used the search function, but have found very little info on 1911 frames on THR. My budget is $150 for the frame. I'll take suggestions, but please keep this in mind FUNCTION WAY OVER FORM. I was a rock solid frame, but it needs no frills. If it is strong AND nice-looking, no problem, but please none the other way around. As always, thank you for your input and if there are any threads I missed, please let me know. .45ACP if it matters on the frame. I haven't seen any indication...

Best up the budget for the frame many cheap frames aren't in spec and makes for a whole lot of extra work. Building a 1911 isn't ordering a couple parts and putting togather. Many parts require hand fitting and special tools. You will have a lot of money and time In a pistol you could have bought finished . Have you ever owned a 1911 . Do you have the tools to fit a barrel Know how to fit a trigger cut a hammer sear right. What reference books do you have.
I suggest you buy a Rock Island and maybe learn to do simple things on it. Before attemping a complete build
It will be expensive to do and do proper You will ruin a part or two along the way Good luck if you decide to press on.

Wow, I was under the impression it was a universal frame that had interchangeable parts... I loved into the Rock Islands and believe you are 100% correct. I have had a 1911 (compact Para) and loved the grip. I have since learned it's a terrible idea to start on a .45ACP, but I believe I'm ready to try out the 1911 again. Thank you for the input and, for the time being, changing my mind about building one...

Ditto Michael T ... ARs are largely snap together, 1911s are fitted and it gets even harder w all the out of spec parts one can encounter.
