Burglar in House as You Enter

OK, I saw it and I got it-------I learned my lesson. I deserve that one, too. I just had a burr under my saddle the other day and wasn't seeing things right. Has that ever happened to anybody before?

C'mon, Rezin, let me hear your solution. This is the "High Road". I know that you will forgive me, since I have already apologized twice.

Burglar in my place?

Step 1: Go to neighbor's place

Step 2: Call police

Step 3: Grab shotgun that neighbor claims not to have, and wait at his doorway, should the SOB decide he doesn't want witnesses

When I am not home, I am usually armed. My wife is usually armed as well, so we have two guns at the ready. We also have only one door, and that's the way out.

We walk in, and someone is standing there, I KNOW the danger is high, since to exit, he needs to go thru us.......... If we hadn't commited to the entry, I'd try and shuit the door and take off to safety.... Maybe try to cover the exit and keep the perp there til the police arrived.

Had we entered too far.... We'd draw down instantly. I'd fire if I thought the threat required it, and I know the wife would pop off as soon as she saw/heard me do it and vice versa ;) I really don't want to shoot someone, but in a situation like this, well..................

Now, as far as where to keep your guns.. You mentioned that some thieves know where folks hide their guns.... Yeah, but most people are not creative. Makes it easy for the thief....

Hide creativley, if you don't have a safe (I too am getting myself a nice big safe to anchor down, as I have aquired a few things of value I wanna protect, other than my guns.)

Drop ceiling? You can get very creative up in there. Crooks don't usually think to look there. I have hidden all sorts of things in my ceiling, from X-mas gifts I didn't want the wife to find, to guns/ammo.

I also have 2 hidden drawers in my sectional sofa. Never know they are there, but I could put lots of stuff there, and if I want, I can even arrange a simple locking sytem for it, on the VERY remote chance they are found. I also have a table with a false bottom and a hidden compartment built into what looks like solid wood.

There are other "safes" that you can get too. Things that look like other objects, like I know a guy with a badass toaster, thats really a safe... You'd never know by looking. I have seen lamps and other things with hidden compartments.

Also, there are other places too. Ever see Kill Bill? Pistol hidden in a box of cereal etc. I know a guy who keeps a spare (loaded) gun in a tupperware in his fridge. Who looks in the fridge for guns? (No, he has no kids)

I had a holster on the bed rail for a while, agaist the wall. I knew were it was, and could get to it fast (in bed) and I seriously doubt, ANYONE would "accidentally" find it unless they knew what they were looking for, and exactly where it was.

Sit down, look around your place. You have safe hiding spots. Use them.

I have two dogs. If they aren't going ape s--- when I get home then something is wrong and I don't enter.

I suppose the note about the blanks was only in jest. That said, remember that the ejecta from blanks (hot gases and sometimes wadding) can be dangerous/fatal at close range. NOT a good idea to leave any weapons accessible when you're out. Being too lazy to secure one's weapons is just asking for trouble. If I'm out, they're locked up. This has been less of an issue since moving from the PRK to rural MN. They still leave guns in glass-doored cabinets (often built by the owners or their children in shop class) or in their vehicle -- which is generally unlocked and has the keys left in it, and is often left running and unlocked while parked while doing errands! Can't do that in CA! (Heck, you can lock your car in the garage and have alarms on both in CA and they'll STILL steal it!)

condescend all you want ron73644, but if your weapons are unloaded, or full of blanks (in the event that the BG notices the weight difference) they can't use them against you (with the exception of the pistol whip.)

The chance of this happening is pretty minor like other's said, but if you are that worried about it just make sure your home defense weapon is unloaded and the ammo is locked up somwhere. I doubt they would bring ammo with them to use on your guns. You should be more worried about them stealing them since they are not locked up, as i am sure there more many more cases of gun thefts. But what does some non-LEO kid know anyway? Enjoy your stay on THR.

Blanks can still kill you.
Or you may draw a loaded pistol and fire a blank because you forgot to reload it.
A very BAD idea indeed. :banghead:
