BURMA-STYLE SIGN SLOGANS/ GUNS SAVE LIVES

I went o n a road rip this weekend and got a pleasant surprise in Illinois

http://gunssavelife.com/GSLife/burma/burmastats.html

GUN CONTROL
DISARMS VICTIMS
NOT CRIMINALS
(Our very first set)

GUN CONTROL IS
RACE CONTROL
NOT CRIME CONTROL
AND IT'S UNAMERICAN
(earned a front-page newspaper story w/ photos)

SOCIETY IS SAFER
WHEN CRIMINALS
DON'T KNOW
WHO'S ARMED
(front page newspaper article w/ photos)

WHEN GUN CONTROL
HAS US BEAT
CRIMINALS WILL
OWN THE STREET

THE RIGHT TO
CARRY FIREARMS
IS THE RIGHT TO
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY

EVERY YEAR
TWO MILLION TIMES
ARMED CITIZENS
PREVENT CRIMES

ARMED CITIZENS
CRIMINALS AVOID
IN 43 STATES
BUT NOT ILLINOIS

IN AUSTRALIA
CRIME WAS LOW
GUNS WERE BANNED
AND CRIME DID GROW

DISARMING VICTIMS
WON'T STOP CRIME
(posted where there was room for only two signs)

IF GUNS
CAUSE CRIME
MATCHES
CAUSE ARSON

YOUNG THUGS
WON'T DARE ATTACK
WHEN A TEACHER
MIGHT SHOOT BACK

GUNS ARE NEITHER
GOOD NOR EVIL
HOW THEY'RE USED
DEPENDS ON PEOPLE

SHOOTING SPORTS
ARE SAFE AND FUN
THERE'S NO CAUSE
TO FEAR A GUN

TELL YOUR SENATOR
WHEN HE RUNS
BAN THE CRIMINALS
NOT THE GUNS

DIALED 9-1-1
AND I'M ON HOLD
SURE WISH I HAD
THAT GUN I SOLD
(front page newspaper article)

VIOLENCE AROUND?
WE HAVE FOUND
FAMILIES WITH GUNS
SLEEP SAFE AND SOUND

SPREAD THE NEWS
LIKE PAUL REVERE
GUNS SAVE LIVES
THOUSANDS PER YEAR

OUR SECOND AMENDMENT
IS GUARDED FOREVER
BY CITIZENS PULLING
THE VOTING LEVER

MY MOM SLEEPS SAFE
SHE HAS NO FEAR
AND THAT'S BECAUSE
HER GUN IS NEAR

MY MOM SLEEPS SAFE
SHE HAS NO FEAR
THUGS STEER CLEAR
OR BANG THEY'LL HEAR

AS YOU CAN SEE
THUGS SPRAY LIES
HARD AS THEY TRY
FREEDOM WON'T DIE

GUN CONTROL
EVERY TIME
ONLY INCREASES
VIOLENT CRIME

CRIMINALS MENACING?
A LADY ALONE?
DETERRENCE REQUIRES
MORE THAN A PHONE
(newspaper story)

THE VILLAIN THOUGHT
HE'D PLAY ROUGH
UNTIL THE LADY
CALLED HIS BLUFF

WHEN DANGER LURKS
REMEMBER, SONNY
THAT RABBIT'S FOOT
WON'T SAVE NO BUNNY

VIOLENT THUGS
WON'T DARE ATTACK
IF THEIR VICTIMS
MIGHT SHOOT BACK

NO GUN HAS EVER
COMMITTED A CRIME
CRIMINALS DO
TIME AFTER TIME

POLICE RARELY
ARRIVE IN TIME
WHAT PROTECTS YOU
DURING THE CRIME?

TYRANTS AND CROOKS
LOVE GUN CONTROL
DISARMED VICTIMS
IS THEIR GOAL

ROSES ARE RED
MY GUN IS BLUE
I AM SAFE
HOW ABOUT YOU?

JANE SEES THUG
THUG SEES JANE
SEES JANE'S GUN
RUN THUG RUN!

TESTED IN PEACE
PROVEN IN WAR
GUNS IN THE HOME
EVEN THE SCORE

CROOKS ARE MANY
COPS ARE FEW
CROOKS CARRY GUNS
WHY CAN'T YOU?

IF A SAFE SOCIETY
IS WHAT YOU SEEK
IT WON'T HAPPEN
DISARMING THE MEEK

IN THE WORLD
IT'S PLAIN TO SEE
IF YOU'RE NOT ARMED
YOU CAN'T BE FREE

FROM 44 STATES
IT IS CLEAR
CITIZENS WITH GUNS
CRIMINALS DO FEAR

OUR MESSAGE IS
LEAN NOT FAT
GUNS SAVE LIVES
THAT'S PURE FACT

i love the "roses are red..." one.

totally awesome!

I expect that the libs (you know, the ones who believe in free speech) will be perfectly happy to vandalize/remove (steal) them.
However, I do like the idea, especially as they are in numerous locations around the state.

My name is John Boch and I'm the vice-president of Guns Save Life, the group that puts up those highway signs.

Yes, we have had some vandalism, but it's usually fairly localized and short-lived. If we run into a persistent problem, we'll erect a double-decker set of signs by attaching a new slogan under the standard one.

The customary slogan for that duty is (along with the vandalized set that we'll leave in place):

AS YOU CAN SEE
THUGS SPRAY LIES
HARD AS THEY TRY
FREEDOM WON'T DIE
GUNS SAVE LIFE.com

We've found from experience that this squelches vandalism abruptly.

Right now, we're facing some manpower issues. We need some volunteers to help us maintaining our signs.

Our current sign program chairman is looking at rotator cuff (sp?) surgery in his not-so-distant future and we're needing some souls to help him!

Yes, the program has garnered a good deal of regional media coverage and even a couple of national mentions. We reach over a half-million people EVERY DAY with these signs... bypassing the major media who initially refused to put up a billboard sign for us about seven or eight years ago. A member who had farmland next to I-74 offered the site and we found donated materials and put our sign set next to the road to deliver our message directly to about 20-some thousand people each day... and that's how our highway sign program got started.

Today we have thirty-odd sign locations and we use vandal-resistant steel posts (hard as your average hacksaw blade) and other vandal-resistant techniques that I won't discuss here. Today, it's usually one of those green deer that damage our signs, not vandals - although we do have one persistant vandal on I-55 that we're fixing to do the double-decker program with as soon as we can get enough volunteers together.

For those in central Illinois, we meet every second Tuesday at the Park Inn in Urbana. Dinner & conversation at 6. Meeting is at 7. We typically have 70-90 people and have two speakers in addition to meeting business. You learn something new at every one of these meetings and the people are great.

Yeah, and replace NOSPAM with @.

Thanks!

He can win it uppon apeal

Unfortunately now it gets expensive, He could have done it on the cheap before. Likely he took the "this dose not deserve a responce" attitude. :banghead:

Hi John, I thought you might like to hear the appreciation of a local. I'm a young man who has only recently become involved with firearms and joined a sportsman's club for the first time. When you're 'out of the loop', having not grown up around firearms or knowing anyone to lend a hand, it was encouraging to see the Guns Save Lives signs along the highway. There seemed to be great discouragement in this community against firearms, and frankly, it almost frightened me out of my firearm curiosity.

I'd love to attend a meeting but I work late shift at the university every Tuesday. Maybe I can make it during the winter break. Thanks for all your efforts though!

I am also a member of CCRA of about 1 1/2 years but I also work second shift so I have never attended a meeting. I have helped with sign duty once this spring on I55 by Onarga, I know I need to get out for the sign partys more, and I will try. One of these days I will get to a meeting so I can meet John in person, but right now I welcome him and all other new members to The High Road. Jim.

I see them on my way to Peoria. Always makes me smile.:D

Too bad it has not caught on beyond the Midwest.
Hec - too bad it's not caught on over more of the Midwest.

Took a drive down to Nashville a couple months ago, but there was a concious effort to avoid Illinois. (We had a lot of firepower in the trunk.) Turns out to be our loss in that we missed the signs. :(

Way cool project.

I saw them on I-55 going North for Thanksgiving. Absolutely awesome! It's great to know there are people fighting the good fight. Keep up the good work!

I’m 8 hours away or I would help.

I was worried because I was carrying without having received permission, to exercise my God given/Constitution recognized right, from the MAN. As I passed these signs “GUN CONTROL……………………………… EVERY TIME………………………………. ONLY INCREASES…………………” at this point, I’m thinking that I am deep in enemy territory and that the next sign would say “SAFETY FOR THE CHILDREN”, lo and behold the next sign said “VIOLENT CRIME” and the next “GUNS SAVE LIFE.com” , who hoo!

I want to send some money to help…. I’m going to try to get my brother, who lives in Normal to hand deliver it (hint hint, he was bragged about how easy it is to dig a posthole in Illinois as compared to Kentucky).

Now…. Who has any ideas on how the rest of us can get something started in other areas? I was thinking that if you could offer cheep ($2 each or so) signs to people in other places, and have a page on Guns save life . com where people from other areas could meet up and organize something more permanent.
