Yesterday I received the Burris Fastfire II red-dot sight from total outdoorsman llc, via the internet. From the day I placed the order to my reception 5 days had elapsed, and that included the free USPS shipping (free my A**, I know who paid for the shipping).
Installation was fairly simple. I had already attached and sighted in my Tactical Solutions integral rail sight thingie. I thought it was interesting that a powerful magnet holds the battery in its socket.
The dot is bright and precise when I focus on my target. It works perfectly both eyes open (I am out of the habit of shooting one eye closed) though sight acquisition with the new system takes longer than I can do it with iron sights. I thought about this a lot on the way out the range.
Shooting the pistol with the sight was amazing. A reasonable grip keeps the dot from jumping out of the window during muzzle rise. This means it moves up and then bounces back close to where you had it. I really enjoyed that I could see the dot the whole time. This will be a whole new world of slayage for whistle pigs!!!
I figured that training would help me to acquire the dot faster on the first shot, as I had found, but the immediate increase in re-acquisition after firing a round clearly outweighs the slower-for-now first shot.
Overall I give the product a good rating: I would highly recommend this. This summer I’ll put it on the 460 and see what it can take. It supposedly can survive 1000G of recoil force, but given that the 460 is a first-shot kind of gun, and I like the irons on it, I’ll probably leave it on the Buckmark for a while.
Range conditions:
40 degrees, 4 inches of melting snow, muddy roads (almost got stuck in 4x4 getting up to the shooting spot). No pics from the range, but here are some pics of the unit.
