Hi All!

I am thinking of using some of my Cabela's points to purchase the Burris Landmark Spotting Scope in 15-45x60. Does anyone have experience with one of these? I don't have the money to purchase one of the really high end scopes like Swarovski or Zeiss. The user reviews on Cabela's are pretty good, but I really trust the opinions and experience of the great users here on THR, so please speak up, Good :D or Bad :fire:, maybe even indifferent:confused:. I have been saving my Cabela's points for over a year to get a spotting scope and I would like to get the most "Bang for the Buck" so to speak, but until I win the lottery I don't see myself forking over $1000 for a spotting scope, would rather use that for nice AR.

So Speak Your Mind and Experiences.

Thanks All!

I can't comment on the spotting scopes, but I own a Burris XTR 3-12 rifle scope and it is outstanding. The optics are very clear and bright. If the spotter is anything like my scope, you will be pleased.

Thanks Conqueror,

I know Burris has a good reputation. Thanks for the input. Everyone says that to get a good spotter you need to spend $1000+ get ED glass and it has to be made in Europe. But I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on Spotter, if I was a professional hunter or guide then that would be another story. But for me, I think the Burris would be right up my alley.

Anyhow I am rambling, thanks again Conqueror.

Burris Spotter

I've had my Burris 15-45x60 for 3 years now. I've used it for rangework at 100 yards and for farm field layout work at up to 1500 yards. I did have a problem with the tripod tightening knob after 2 years but Burris took care of that quickly by sending me the parts needed for the repair. I'm sold on the scope and how well it has held up. For my purposes it has been more than adequate.

I use mine at the range quite frequently and is a very good spotter for the money. My range's longest distance is only 200 yards but I can even pick out .17 caliber holes with it at that distance.
The only major drawback to it is very little eye relief. If you wear glasses you might want to try this out before you buy it.The higher the magnification, the worse the eye relief is.Also you may want to get another tripod or add weight to the factory one.
Overall I am very happy with mine, but just wanted to give you a little heads up.

Thanks all for the info.

I do wear eyeglasses so the relief might be a problem for me, but their isn't a Cabela's any where near me and I don't know of any shops around here that carry this scope. But Cabela's does have a good return policy so I might try it and see. I do have a tripod that I have used for camera's so I should be able to use it and I also have a window mount I acquired in a deal a few years ago.

Anyhow thanks all for your input, I really appreciate it.

Well to update, I bought the Burris. It is ok, maybe I should have waited a little longer and got something a little better. It works fine, the included tripod and window mount is sort of gimicky... I hate the tripod, very non-intuitive and just doesn't work that well. But the scope is fine with my window mount, we actually used it once this elk season, when one of my hunting buddies thought he saw an elk in the trees. I whipped out my scope, he propped it on the hood of my truck and after fiddling with the scope, he hadn't used it before, decided it wasn't an elk.

Anyhow, for a first spotting scope its it ok. I could have done worse that's for sure and certainly could have done better. All in all, the burris is probably ok. About what you would expect for the money. If I didn't buy this one, I would have probably bought the Nikon Prostaff, it looked like a good scope and had great reviews.

Anyhow that is my .02

PremiumSauces, it is a good spotter, especially for my first spotting scope and it came with a nice padded hard sided case, a soft side case and a tripod/window mount. So it has a lot of bang for the buck.
