I'm in the market for a 5.56x45 zombie rifle.:scrutiny: These are the two candidates: A Bushmaster 20" rifle with A2 stock and A3 upper for $650 and an Arsenal SLR106F w/ side folder for $750.

Bushie pros:
cheaper mags
more spare parts commonly available

Bushie cons:
I'm a lefty, so I need an ambi safety $30
I'm not a fan of ghost ring sights for quick acquisition. Cmore Railway $230
grip sucks...new grip $30

Arsenal pros:
I like plain old rifle sights on the AK...no optics needed, works out of the box.
Controls all on the right side of the gun...plus for me.
It folds, not a necessity but sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.

Arsenal cons:
Mags are $30 a piece
parts less common because of caliber choice

Arsenal.

When you're holding off the shambling hordes, you absolutely, positively want a gun that works. You can't beat the AKs reliability, and the Arsenals are some of the best AKs out there.

I've learned with old age, both my body and eyesight, no one platform does it all, and no one sighting system either. With this in mind I own both a Bushy 16" flattop sporting an ACOG TA33, Maidi grip, CM 4# single stage trigger, and a PWS brake. The only modification to the 106 was installation of an Ultrimak gas tube to support a Aimpoint Micro and a SLIP safety so I can lock the bolt back. I, almost forgot, yes I did add an ambi safety to the Bushy because I'm a southpaw. I'd get the 106 first, as prices are rising, and they are becoming more scare. Remember, 2 is 1, and 1 is none. Just my solution to a problem I hope never happens. In the meantime, have fun, stay safe.:)

From reading your post, I think you should get the Arsenal. You like the sights better; the ergos work for you; and it has a solid, folding stock (which you seem to like).

For what it's worth, there are magwell adaptors (originally for the Galil, I believe) that allow you to use AR mags. Another possibility is to use Orlite Galil mags. I know those work in the 5.56 Saigas, but I'm not sure on whether they work in Bulgarian 5.56 AKs.

Heck, for that matter, you could buy a 5.56 Saiga for $330.00 ($350.00 for the 20" barrel), then convert it, yourself. FMJMIKE did a beautiful job on his.

+ 1

I have one a 107CR and its amazing.

To me a "gost ring" is a apeture sight with a special huge rear that is designed for quick use. With my poor eyes it never impressed.
The standard AR apeture sight along with the fullsize A2 stock is very quick and very accurate and is tops in my book .
Then I am an AR guy and have hardly shot any AKs so my answer is pretty biased.
You don't see many AKs in service rifle or three gun shoots .
The AK guys claim that in extreme conditions the AK has an edge , I don't know, but in the conditions I have shot in just very casual care and lube has kept my AR's running fine

BushMaster A3 20"

I just bought a BushMaster A3 20" for just a little under $1200. so I would say if you can get it for $650 what the Hell are you waiting for???

I did think of another advantage for the AR...I'm rather fickle, so if I decide I don't like it, it would be easier to sell.

I don't use the ghost ring sight. A local club has a running deer shoot for AR-15s , I've tried both and the standard 300m aperture works best. I've tried open irons on a SKS- they aren't worth a crap for target acquisition on moving things- they feel faster, but sight alignment is difficult and getting much fewer hits is proof of it. The guys who shoot the best at this use eotechs- something that mounts very easily to ARs.

I'd take the Bushmaster hands down.

Out of your two choices I would go with the Arsenal.

Now if you were to compare a 16" AR15 to the Arsenal I may choose the AR.
