I like illuminated reticles for low-light situations, even thick black posts can be difficult to see when in thick forest in twilight, but legal hunting situations. But this feature sounds more like a gimmick - yes, the batteries in the scope can't run out, but what about your flashlight? You are still depending on batteries, only now you have to know when you are going to come up on a shot at an animal - so you can "charge-up" your reticle first. It bothers me that there is no statement as to how long the firefly reticle will continue to glow after it is charged by a flashlight. I don't think that an elk in the timber is going to wait for you to shine your flashlight through your scope for a minute or two before you take your shot.
I think that this is a great idea poorly executed, if they were using a tritium light source like the ACOG sights or printing the old radium glow-in-the-dark compound on the reticle then it would work well, but the lack of a better description about how long the reticle will glow leaves me wondering.
