I'm another who has bought guns over the Internet, from individuals and from dealers. I usually try first at local gunshops, though. The latest couple of purchases involved locating the guns via the Internet, then driving to the next state to buy them in person from that dealer when the local dealers either couldn't or wouldn't get the specific models that I wanted to buy.

I have seen exactly One gun at a gun show that I wanted to buy, but I didn't have the money. It was a gorgeous Perugini-Visini double in 9.3x74R.

I've used my C&R license to buy a few milsurp rifles via the internet and have had a good experience each time. If I see what I want in a local shop, I'll just buy it then and there, but buying milsurps online opens up more options than just what is in the local shops, and more options is always good.

For new guns I usually go to a local shop unless it is an incredible deal online.

Online dealers I've purchased from include:

Wild West Guns
Empire Arms
Wholesale Guns and Ammo
InterOrdnance
Sellers with excellent feedback on Gunbroker and Auction Arms
THR members

I don't know if 10 Percent Firearms is considered local since it is a 2 hour drive each way, but I've bought from him (El Rojo here on THR) as well.

One of the local shops has a very good gunsmith, so I like to do my part to keep his doors open. :)

Editted to add: So put me down for "Internet" and "local independent shop", as I didn't click a choice on the poll.

How do you buy guns on the internet? I realize there are places like gunsamerica and gunbroker but don't you need a class C license?

You have to know a person with an FFL. You buy it and contact your FFL guy to send the proper paperwork to the seller. Seller sends gun to your FFL, then you fill out the yellow form, pay your FFL his fee (usually around $20.00) and take your new gun home.

Oh. Guess i'll have to do it through a pawn shop.

Primarily local dealer, but I have used all the above at some point.

Ah. I still haven't bought my first gun debating if I should get online or local, I have heard local deals are sometimes the best.
