is the S&W Model 36 chief's special on it?

I didn't see it on the ATF list, but I may have missed it, just want to make sure.

The 36 has been in production from 1950–present. So you'll have to find out what year the one you're interested in was manufactured. If it was before 1958, than it's a C&R. AFAIK

hmm. cool. i'll try to figure that out.

and mods, thanks for the move. I had figured General would be better because of the C&R ref. oops :neener:

There are two ways for a gun to be C&R qualified.

1. Be 50 years of age. Any gun (except for some strange reason military rifles that are modified or have the stocks removed) that is at least 50 years old is automatically considered eligible.

2. Be specifically listed even though under 50 years old due to its historic significance.

As noted, find out when the 36 was made. If 50 years ago or more it's C&R qualified. Since model numbers started in 1957 if it's actually stamped as a Model 36 it would have to be a very early model marked example.
