Was chatting with a product specalist for an imaging system (Yes I am purposely being vague :) ) late at work yesterday when the conversation turned to firearms :D .
Turns out he is one of us, so to speak, but he lives in Cali :eek

He told me that Cali has a law that you are allowed to own a maximum of 20 firearms and a maximum of 10,00 rounds. ::what:

Can anyone from California or who knows for sure confirm or deny this? And hopefully give some sort of reference ( pretty please. )

Deny.

It's one of those things where no such thing is written, so how can one prove it isn't true by pointing to it? No place in Penal Code or anywhere else does it explicitly say 'there is no limit on the number of firearms one can own' nor 'there is no limit on the amount of ammunition one can own'.

(and if that were true, I would have to buy some more guns - one gun a month is expensive enough!)

Your friend is talking out of his backside.

I am a native CA resident and I am way way past these supposed "limits", -and I just bought another pistol last Saturday, didn't have any problem runing my data thru local & NICs check.

We do have laws limiting 1 new pistol purchase every 30 days, limiting the type of handguns allowed for sale, banning "assault weapons" and magazines holding more than 10-rounds, we even have a ban against .50 BMG rifles, but there isn't anything on paper limiting total number of guns or quantity of ammo.

Here's the link to CA's Attorney General's Bureau of Firearms. It lists all limitations and laws governing firearms in CA. Ask your 'bleepin' friend to prove it.

ya sounds kinda far fetched. i did have an uncle who said he had trouble getting a 7th gun because 'someone somewhere didnt like him having more than 6' - meaning that some atf guy somewhere started asking questions on what his were for. no proof though

i myself have 3 pistols, 6 rifles, and now 2 shotguns and have purchased all but one in the last 15 months alone. all of these except 2 were with background checks [two on my c&r] and had no problems. hell, big 5 even gave me a gun at cost for helping them cover their asses when they messed up their paperwork.

believe me, if i ever run accorss any problems ill post details here

CWL, Thank you very much for the info and link.

Yeahh it sounded crazy to myself as well that is why the question.

Your friend is woefully misinformed - so much so he must either be a cop, a guns shop clerk, or a political staffer.

Product specialist for an imaging system - hmm, Remington LE software from Finmeccanica SA that reads license plate info?

Nope none of the above, has nothing to do with any of the above, and that is the last I will comment on his occupation. He had heard about me ( I have a standing offer to take anyone shooting the first time for free after a safety/familiarazation lesson) and waited to talk to me till the end of the day when the "suits" were not around.
