Cam corder for video of shooting.

I shoot professional videos of artists to be shown at exhibits in art museums. I know a lot about video cameras of many types. Like with most things you get what you pay for. A $60 video camera is not going to be very good build quality. Unless it is miraculous it is unlikely to make technically good videos. Quality. Is dependent on the lens, the digital sensor, and the video processing engine which converts the digital data into a viewable video. That camera is not going to have quality in any of those elements. Of course quality is subjective. It might be good enough for your needs/wants. Personally I would use any smartphone before I would use that camera. An IPhone 7 will give excellent results. An iPhone 11 Pro will be.much better than the 7, and it will cost 4 or 5 Thames more than the 7. Of course how much you spend is a matter of the quality of video you want to achieve. if your son’s phone was good enough to then why not try to find a used one of that model. The one good thing about the phone in Amazon is that if it does not work out you will not be out much money.

My son has a I phone 12 now. I have A galaxy. But my wife shakes a lot she has bad nephropathy. She already ordered the camera as a birthday present for me. So ill find out. Here is a vid my son did with his old I phone 5.

A lot of people have purchased it and gave it good ratings. Seems good enough for range work.? If no good send it back to Glamazon!

A smart phone and a tripod if you have one.

A good tripod will be essential for the best video.
You also have to get into the habit of checking on the battery and the storage card.

Now, another nifty item to collect is one of these:

(Amazon has burned me one too many times with drop-shipped fakes, so I have a reflex for direct-from-mfgr)
It's rather nice for older eyes, but for also not having to "break" position quite so much to use.

The rare times i do video its usually my phone in a tripod mount like @CapnMac linked.
I also run that on my spotting scope when im not using my clamp on scope cam.

The shooting pics are all screen shots from my iPhone X. I set it on the indoor range bench and shoot a quick video. Not always the clearest when there is really fast action, but the ol’ iPhone shoots decent video.

Personally I’d get a newer iPhone (or similar) and use the camera feature, or if a phone isn’t wanted a Go Pro or other sports-oriented digital recorder for your needs. I think you’ll be happier with the video results.

Stay safe.

I hate to pile on, but I agree with above sentiment. Almost any modern cell phone is going to take world's better photos and videos than those cheap cameras. Amazing quality, actually. Affordable option B is a Go-Pro. They make mounts for either to hold them on a tripod if needed. I make a lot of cheesy Dad videos of our range trips and other outings, just for fun. These are just a few within the last couple of years with a Samsung phone. (You may need to toggle the viewing quality to 1080 in Youtube.)

I agree that the action camera market, in which GoPro is the premier product, can be a great choice for this type of recording. There are decent high end competitors to GoPro, such as from Sony, plus low cost options if you do not need the super features, including in the $60-$120 range. I had a GoPro Hero2 for years for flying videos and recording public conference presentations using a table top tripod. It died this year, so I am experimenting with a $60 Akaso action camera as a replacement. You can see the Hero2 (an OLD model of GoPro) products on my YouTube channel (Craginsh) or Rumble content. Not every flying video is GoPro, but all of the presentation recordings are.

An advantage of using an action camera is the ability to use available straps and mounts to place the camera on your head, arm, or body, to record approximately what you are seeing as you do your thing. You can also use a tripod or a selfie stick to put yourself into the view.
